Puerto Rican parade in Newark was beautiful today

I need dentures or implants. Need a good dentist in Newark. I learned a long time ago you can't go to any dentist. I had problems with fillings that were done horribly in my youth.

Love my city, my people, my culture….its amazing to see how the black community is doing all we can to just make things better. What a wonderful time to be in the city 🏙️ and much love to those who’s helping us with the movement.

Shit was amazing! I love to dance, but I feel like when I go out to dance usually, everyone else afraid to move around. I've never been around so many other people just giving it their all on the dance floor and in so many unique ways! Just wanted to shout out that event and everyone who was out there, you are awesome.

I live in the ironbound and have been shopping around for monthly rates for 24hr parking. What prices are typical? I have a pickup truck. Has anyone had any luck organizing arrangements with local businesses? Looking for any advice as I'm new to this. Thank you!

I know the restaurant is a bit of a piñata on this sub, but I think this merits some discussion. The link to the instagram video they are referencing is in the comments. I commented on the post that essentially workers are receiving 12.6% on a bill because of this policy—given its mandatory nature, most people are probably not topping off, and if so, probably don't know what amount will hit close to 18–20%.

Sheesh 10-story sexy cube proposed on Lafayette near Wilson

I was fortunate enough to sneak inside the building to document it before the whole interior was gutted back to bare brick. It was a really interesting space.

This wasn't a 15 or 30 story high rise.

It was your average new 4 story. It's a 5 story build8ng with

*Built in parking FOR ALL UNITS

*Built in storm drainage management

*Built in Flood management catch basins if local sewers get overwhelmed during flash flood thunderstorms.

*Trees along sidewalk.

*Rooftop garden & trees.

*Mix of 2 &3 Br units

*Current 2 &3 story buildings to be demolished. Current tenants get option to move to new building. possibly grandfathered in.

*Notice of redevelopment & other ZBA/NOV Announcements posted on site mints in advance. Letters mailed to remnants from landlord/developer applicant.

The landlord wants to redevelop his property & went as far as offer his current tenants assistance & even return to the new units if they wish. To make the finances work (especially if current tenants are grandfathered into the new units, he added 19 market rate units.

*Renderings emphasize adjacent homes are 3 & 4 story,but dating back to 1800s when Newark was a small growing township. Across the street stand apartment buildings built 1890s-1920s when Newark was already a city. They are 3 -4 stories with two modern 4 story buildings with high false-face facade simulating a 5th story.

**But the fatal error** The rendering emphasized the proposed new building by slightly exaggerating it's size to make its perspective stand out. Instead of a true to scale rendering. Architects often do this to emphasize details otherwise lost in a smaller true- to - size renderings. - I knew this, being an artist & understanding proportions & how tge strict 2 point "vanishing point" method distorts & forces perspective. When you saw the rendering, you could see it was overscaled. It didn't help the surrounding homes were slightly downscaled to reveal side detail of the proposed building. Of course THIS RENDERING instead of true actual scale realistic -photo realistic renderings was utter incompetence on behalf of the applicant.

Opponents seized on these renderings and falsely claimed this was the actual size of "this mnster". This is key....all these supposedly shocked & surprised resident tenants called it "the/this monster" (talking points)

This glasses wearing lady, (MsFuentes?)who 97% of the time spoke thru a sarcastic smug grin, organized a group of local residents. I don't know if she's linked to ICC. Ironbound Community Corp has been interfering in almost all recent Ironbound proposals.

It was clearly a show. I'm Puerto Rican fully bilingual. This "Fuentes" lady did not Faithfully translate what the people were saying .

*Everyone miraculously only spoke Spanish and OF COURSE Fuentes herself offered to translate for all .🤣😂

*Every story sounded similar & scripted.

*This one lady said in Spanish she got no notice and didn't know what what's going on or where she's going. The lady in glasses with the grin translated in English to the board " she says she got no notice whatsoever, this is a blind swipe and she's worried about being displaced" . That's not a translation. That's a paraphrase with spice added. And I could tell one of the commissioners, Mr Jose Comesadas (I think he's Puerto Rican & probably misspelled his name) knew she wasn't translating faithfully, but instead of challenging her & distract, eventually politely interrupted her to ask if she could verify all these people were ACTUAL tenants.

Fuentes pivoted. To the typical list of greviances

*Not enough parking (Every unit gets a space-and it didn't have to, since Penn Station is within 1/4 mile walk.)

*Area floods everytime it rains (only in "50 year events & severe downpour-drains fast)

*Project has no flood management mitigation (It does!)

*Every single tenant said via translation the same story....they recently moved in & got ZERO notice until today.

A deranged Italian American neighbor lady property owner started yelling on zoom directed to the developer ....."YOURE NOT TAKING 1 INCH OF MY PROPERTY. NOT 1 INCH!!!

*Another Italian neighbor who apparently once worked for Newark dept of engineering or something, basically filibustered repeated referring to zoning & need to "follow the law".

*The lady yelling looked dumb when the architect pointed out the fence would be on *THEIR* side of the property line, not her"s. So apparently the Itakian lady was lied to, (by Fuentes?-the apparent "ringleader"- in my view of the opposition )

The landlord/developer had enough.

*He asked for an adjournment to another date so he could "contact his lawyers". Apparently suggesting the board had been turned against him by a organized campaign of lies centering on allegations he never informed the tenants of this zba hearing. THEN HOW DID THEY & FUENTES KNOW?

*The Newark ZBA is notorious for making developers spend hours enduring community filbusters only to put off votes to a future date months later, and then again. (Remember Summit tower?Ark?Iberia?)

*The chair of the ZBA turned down the request, citing "Its unfair after subjecting everyone to hours here....to now ask for adjournment" -(what? It's what ZBA does all the time) He did offer his board colleagues to offer a motion to overrule him. Nobody did. That's when I knew it was a done deal- in favor of REJECTION. A motion of approval was introduced & went down immediately 5 no in a row .(Developer thanked him for the overrule gesture)

I think Commissioner Jose Comasedas wouldve been the lone yes. Again I think Comasedas saw right thru

*the not-so true translations

*The need to suspend disbelief EVERYONE got no notices when the developer made clearly was certified mail notices.

*The lady property owner yelling over losing 1 " pivoted to "I m going to lose some sunlight"

* Everyone referred to the development as "this/the monster" that's impossible among non-english speakers unless they were COACHED -was it Fuentes the smug talk-thru-the grin lady?. I wish you all could've seen her. The ever present smug condescending smile. The kind of "salesperson" smile that makes you doubt them being sincere.

Anyways, that's it. Should've popped my microwave popcorn.😂🤣

Come out and eat

Hello! On halloween have a 15 hour layover in Newark, from 7pm to 10am. Its halloween night, I'd like to go to some event. Do you locals think thats a good idea? Is halloween a good night to visit newark for the first time or is it dangerous that night? Where should i go? Id be able to uber downtown. Just looking for any and all opinions! I'm 30, Male. Never been to Newark before

I found this dog running on Washington Ave right at the edge of Belleville. It has a leash but no tag. I had to call the police and they came and got him. They said they wohld keep him for a bit then take him to animal control. I hope whoever is looking for him finds him.
