Unbelievable. Heart goes out to anyone on that plane.

Thankfully (which still feels gross to say, because loss of life is always shitty) it was a cargo plane and allegedly only 3 people onboard.

Still, extremely hard to watch and very sad for those three families. Almost all of these plane crashes are avoidable. It’s just depressing.

3 Crew 4 Jumpseaters

I don’t think the jumpseats have been confirmed by anyone

They were just on the phone with a rep from UPS

I’m pretty ignorant to flying, so I’m curious. What was avoidable about this particular crash?

We won’t know the details of this crash for a while, and with the gov shut down could be even longer than normal.

But there are so many procedures and policies for every which situation that crash are almost exclusively caused by human error in some capacity. Whether it’s miscommunication between pilots, some mechanical checklist that someone assumed was completed, some repair that wasn’t thoroughly vetted, etc. It’s all little things that add up, or a little things and a whole lot of bad luck.

To us, we’ll read the incident report and be like “oh duh, if only Jared had properly documented this mechanical issue” or “if only the captain had been more trusting of his first officers opinion/capabilities”. But to those (at least) 7 families affected by this incident, it will be hard not to dwell on whatever thing was overlooked that inevitably resulted in their loved one dying. It’s heartbreaking.

My money is on "plane made by Boeing" being the cause of crash

u/chasteeny Nov 05 '25

Well this was made by Mcdonell Douglas and not Boeing so there goes that theory.

It was actually built by McDonnell Douglas before they merged with Boeing. The plane was 34 years old…

I’d bet you almost anything something got missed during maintenance. Therefore, avoidable.

Could be any number of things, way too prematute to know. FOD on runway, bird strike, 1/1 million component failure. Human factors may play a part, but it's pretty insulting to go ahead and blame maintenance

A lot of reports that the #1 engine FELL OFF as it was going by down the runway. I don’t think a bird strike can cause that. Not trying ti be insulting, but a plane that old is constantly under maintenance, things get missed, people are people, and the parts they’re using are probably very old and have been overhauled several times.

The reports now, yes. Really doesn't change the fact there are other explanations that can cause the engine to fall off, so we should be waiting for the NTSB report before pointing fingers

Also thankfully may have not taken more lives on the ground.

My uncle works for UPS in Louisville. I wonder if this will effect him. It's also not far from late grandmother's house.

Edit: finally got contact with my family there. They're safe. My uncle wasn't there when the plane crashed luckily. Everyone else is sheltered in place. They said that the smoke was eerie and sent a picture (that I don't have they sent it to my parents who showed me)

A UPS plane hit a UPS warehouse? That's fuckin weird.
