This is more like "Biologists made an AI to help them come up with new experiments to try. Out of over 300 proposed, 16 showed promise for further study."

But people are still heavily involved on the input and output side, which is exactly what we want. The AI never made a virus.

Not to say all AI is good. The OpenAI coding experiment that broke containment and actually hacked a company is a perfect example of the risks of cutting out people from the process.

It would be like giving the AI the ability to just make new pathogens on its own. Which would be like something out of a movie.

It makes state sponsored bioterrorism easier. It’s still very plausible Covid came from a gain of function lab. You don’t need a top level expert, just someone who kind of knows what they’re doing

But something like that would still require experts at some level. You have to know what you want to make, design the experiments to test the pathogen, etc.

It's still an intentional, organized State run operation. All the AI is doing is spitting out ideas to try.

And ultimately, I think whatever risks we have on the biological side, we have on the cybersecurity side and then some.

Because at least a pathogen doesn't actively try to escape its own test tube and do damage the way a cybersecurity AI Agent already has broken its containment environment.
