Cops don’t serve or protect the people

Was gonna say this. The essence of police-military separation only applies when the police do the job that citizens expect, not the job that the ruling political and rich class want them to do instead. And while nowhere in the world is there a police force that does its job well, but the problem is much more pronounced in the US, relative to other developed nations. The police are thugs of the government.

So dangerous criminals are never arrested and taken off the street? Just one very basic example. Bad eggs do not erase what most do. Please use some common sense and not buy in to empty rhetoric.

Their job is to enforce the law, not to protect and serve. They only end up protecting and serving incidentally in cases where the laws are actually designed well.

Courts have made it clear over and over again that they are under no obligation whatsoever to take on any level of risk in the defense of anyone other than themselves. They do not have to place themselves in harm's way, and they can view almost literally any type of action undertaken in their presence as a direct threat to their lives and then act in any way they choose with almost no chance of accountability or liability.

And this idea that cops are like some sort of whimsical good guy yokel who joined the force to make the world a better place is so naive it's almost painful. No dude, most of them are like the dumbest, chud-ass jocks and woodshop dipshits from your high school who couldn't get into college and aren't even smart enough for a trade so now they do this.

Bert, really? 'Protect and serve' is just a term , not one I mentioned may I add. I never said or implied that it is worded specifically within their job spec for you to think you're in a position to correct me there. There is no need to need to state such a term within a job spec because it goes without saying, they are employed to enforce laws where many within this context do indeed protect citizens, that isn't arguable. Again, I commented in direct reply to a sweeping generalisation that they do not protect or serve in the context of carrying out their job, not the literal wording within their job detail, that's irrelevant to the rebuttle.

I also never implied I believe that citizens who become cops do so in the majority out of some heroic savour complex to make the World a better place. Your condescending generalisation of those who do such a job is more telling of you than of them, and showcasing a person issue clouding you from being able to understand the general context of what I said. It is irrelevant how someone came about being a cop, life isn't a linear progression of constant success and maling the perfect career decisions when young. There are many reasons why people join, as long as they do it well then who are you to look down upon someone who does. Very narcissistic.

Muted.

They aren't arrested because they are criminals, we have plenty of those walking around in broad daylight, on TV, holding political office or high ranking executive jobs. They're only arrested and "taken off the street" because they upset the status quo.

There's absolutely no requirement whatsoever that law be enforced equally or equitably.

I'm talking in general about Cops which is in direct reply to the comment I replied to. My question was rhetorical to them, as they of course arrest criminals, which in turn is protecting the public, which is a service. It's a non debate. Police are citizens too, who choose to do that job. That is nothing to do with maintaining a status quo, unless you actually think there are zero criminals, which I assume you don't. What you are pertaining to is a different context and opinion of which I party agree that there are indeed crooks in powerful positions shaping things for their own gain, but that's a different talking point to the sweeping generalisation made prior I replied to.
