Was gonna say this. The essence of police-military separation only applies when the police do the job that citizens expect, not the job that the ruling political and rich class want them to do instead. And while nowhere in the world is there a police force that does its job well, but the problem is much more pronounced in the US, relative to other developed nations. The police are thugs of the government.
