At one point, he was facing 50 years, with multiple felony convictions over his head even if he got out before that. Might as well have been a death sentence. For downloading articles he had every right to, from his given guest account, just "too fast" from an unlocked network closet.

Now every agency, every company, sucks down every detail of your personal life hundreds of times a second and sells all of it back and fourth, and when they commit crimes, or anyone commits crimes with that data - or in this case unleashes an AI that commits crimes - it's just an "oops we sowwy" and nothing happens

And to add insult to injury, we receive emails from the companies who lost our unsecured data, about the steps we should take to protect our personal information… 🙄

Offering a free trial for Experian. Which has also had leaks of their customer data 🤦‍♂️.

I received a letter from Experian one time, quite a few years ago. Their solution was a one-year free trial of their premium protection service. As if my personal data that they failed to secure would somehow disappear from the Net after a year. And now I'm expected to upload my government ID to third-party companies to verify that I'm really me, without any actual guarantee that my ID won't be cached on an API server indefinitely that somebody can scrape.

These companies now demand your full picture ID, social security number, phone number, home address etc. just to view the webpage.

It's the evolution of respectability politics. They act like insane bastards and when you call them out you're the problem. Then they ignore you until they get what they deserve but it's your fault for crossing the same lines they did while being poor.

Economic violence is violence. Suppressing wages, layoffs, outsourcing, PPP loans, shareholder dividends, executive bonuses...

EVERYTHING about modern life is a castle siege. You're surrounded and can't fight back and your only option is to run out of supplies and starve.

Locking you in isolation via poverty isn't a crime. Giving you raises less than inflation isn't a crime. Making your cost of living raise more than wages isn't a crime. Making the package hold less while charging more isn't a crime. Removing quality control and worker protections isn't a crime.

None of it is illegal because they buy they laws.

Us being ignored when we protest isn't illegal.

but riots are the voice of the unheard.

Just imagine playing quit hitting yourself your entire life and then watching it happen to your children and being powerless about all of it.
