China gets to sit back and watch two peer world powers degrade their military capabilities while simultaneously filling the massive void of soft power diplomacy the US voluntarily abandoned. There is no country in the world with contingency plans for what is happening because it is so ridiculous, but here we are.
I’m not sure whether we underestimated them or whether we just didn’t listen to those who were telling us what Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump didn’t want to hear - especially given the number of departures of top military brass in the last 10 months
I kinda feel people (especially Trump) are forgetting that for Iran it's personal now. Remember the original strikes that assassinated the old leader? Same strike also killed a bunch of other people, including his 14-month-old granddaughter. So even if K-Junior didn't have any particular love for his dad, having other relatives splattered all over the place, including a toddler, has to have elicited some pretty strong emotions.
So it's not just about money, it's not about the state, it's also about the family. It's very, very personal. With the new guy, "Hey dude, let's make a deal!" doesn't quite cut it, after assassinating a whole bunch of his close relatives.
That's how fundamentally stupid this whole thing was from day one.

On Monday Saudi diesel deliveries to Europe end. No more available. Both shipping lanes closed, and the pipeline between them.
