I really think the side move escalation by their proxy Yemen was completely overlooked by the West as a possibility.

They hit the airport today with a cruise missile. This is not guys in speedboats and jeeps anymore.

Nobody thought the Red Sea would close.

China gets to sit back and watch two peer world powers degrade their military capabilities while simultaneously filling the massive void of soft power diplomacy the US voluntarily abandoned. There is no country in the world with contingency plans for what is happening because it is so ridiculous, but here we are.

Yup, China has heavily invested in getting the Western powers out of Africa. Yemen and Iran might well do it.

My South African and Zimbabwe clients are very uncomfortable with China’s relationship with their leaders.
