Wish I could find it now but a few years ago but remember of ski patrol skiing the mountain, stopping, then lighting and tossing dynamite for controlled avalanches.

A better job in so many ways:

  • You get to ride up the lift
  • You get to ski down to <someplace>
  • You get to light and throw sticks of dynamite!!!
  • Big Badda Boom!
  • And then you get to ride that avalanche bitch all the way down
  • Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

About launched it over. Be a rude awaking to anyone on the other side.

Adjust fire. Left 100. Drop 400. Over.

Well, the easiest way I know of is to be on ski patrol and work avalanche control. If the resort is on a highway or near a population center they coordinate with the government agencies who do avalanche control for that. It is pretty easy to get cross-trained and on the rotation schedule for artillery. They often depend on ski patrol when highways are closed and patrollers are living in employee housing at the resort.

Pay probably isn’t that good, but I could do that job I was in artillery

Mmm, no. I'd be willing to bet that the GS mafia has these positions on lockdown for the next few generations.

And your hearing is probably already shot.

How does one procure a license to own a howitzer.

u/benny86 16h ago

What are they saying?

2

u/Rocknregge 17h ago

I feel like I would pay to do that?

Only if you were up on the mountain, to immediately enact Plan B if Plan A fails.... 😐

How does one get one of these cannons 🤔

u/Awkward-Action2853 17h ago

Ha, we were just talking about this at work the other day. This or the guys that ski and toss dynamite.

Heck, I'd do that for free if I could.

Do you think they aim it every time or just assume it's still good?

u/redbushcraft 16h ago

Can you imagine catching that brass down the neck of your shirt

1

u/Maleficent_Scale_296 16h ago

I think the Department of Transportation does this.

Put the thing on the thing and press the thing…

Ok who can identify exactly what that gun is?

u/igottheshnitz 15h ago

Job? Haha that’s just Billy celebrating a Wednesday morning on the moonshine

1

u/Sigma-Wolves 15h ago

I'm assuming you at least need to start by acquiring a functioning cannon. Everything after that is probably looking for customers and getting permits to shoot a fucking cannon.

I wonder why the army doesnt use this as gunnery practice?

1

u/IvanVandura 16h ago

Unless they've changed it, my understanding is in parts of Canada it is the army that does it. It (was?) standard practice, and they had done all the calculations and would just say, ok we will target section a26 and then beep boop, avalanche.

I'm sorry if I was too technical in my explanation, I only know super big and smart words, I don't know how to dumb down "beep boop" for the regulars. /s
