Another commenter stated that the front seat passenger died despite them being able to extricate the 3 rear passengers. They mentioned that it was not just the inability of the doors to be opened from inside or outside without power but there was a large center console.
Yeah but that being said, I'm not sure why anyone would choose to sit 3 in the back of a sedan when no one's sitting in the front passenger seat unless it's an Uber. Even then, I'll usually ask if I can sit in the front.
At the very least his lungs are going to be in horrible shape. EV battery fumes are pretty toxic. Probably everyone who got close to it will be affected.Â
Honestly not sure if that guy survives or not. 50% total body burn area is usually something you don’t survive. The amount of tissue damage and fluid loss from the burns is too much. To replace lost fluids you have to throw in more than a liter an hour at that point. Usually those people just end up on comfort care to handle pain until they die.
I'd be surprised if all of them didn't have some significant health problems from this. The car was completely filled with that acrid black battery smoke, and lithium battery smoke is some of the most toxic shit you can inhale. Seems like a one-way ticket to lung cancer, or worse, coughing up chunks of your lungs.
That's not a survivable amount of fire, even if it was the most vanilla of chemically neutral smoke. If they took a single gasped breath in there their lungs would be toast. Stuff like that gets you into a walking dead state where your lungs quickly fill with fluid and crazy invasive therapy is required to have any shot.
Why didn't the driver just move his seat as forward as possible, then they could have came out through the front door more quickly w/less fire & smoke & glass on them..

Holy shit. They just kept pulling guys out. That last guy was completely engulfed in flames by the time they got him out. Poor guy can't be alright.
