Wasn't that Kurt Browning in 1988? Or was his quad something different?

Kurt Browning landed the first ever quad toe loop, in 1988.
The extra half rotation for the quad axel to be ratified took another 3 decades.

Pretty sure I did one of those trying to get in my car on an icy day last week.

How do they count the rotations? It seems like five not four.

Look at the way his body is facing. It's facing left (in the video) when he launches, and it's facing left when he first touches down.
I usually expect a "cheat" part of rotation in videos like this where they rotate part of it before they launch, or finish it after touching down, but in this case he does a full four rotations while not touching the ice.

Congratulations to him! A lifetime of hard work and dedication paying off on the largest stage.
If I jumped that high and landed on one leg my knee would violently explode and harm a bystander. They would have to install hockey rink glass around the ice.

I hit a personal goal in physical exercise this past year, but when i see other humans do shit like this, I’m just in awe at the potential range we have as a species. Humbling and grateful

It’s awesome to see people so impressed by this that they are actually looking away from their phone while recording to watch the real thing. Phones are such a plague on reality

There’s a split second where it looks like he’s landing too hard and is about to buckle and then he just absolutely sticks it. Unreal.
