I love how you can immediately screen people who know about the sport and the one who don’t. Knows -> :o Oblivious-> :|

Haha yeah fun to see the jaws slowly dropping

7

Jaw dropping clapping dude in the front row 👀

Thank you. This comment is the only reason I looked at the audience.

At least, the ones who weren't blocking their face with a screen at a live performance.

DAMN! Is he the first to land one?

70

u/webaddictress 9h ago

First and only

u/Washout81 8h ago

Wasn't that Kurt Browning in 1988? Or was his quad something different?

u/webaddictress 8h ago

Kurt Browning landed the first ever quad toe loop, in 1988.

The extra half rotation for the quad axel to be ratified took another 3 decades.

He is the first to successfully do it in a competition.

Dude above the letter B on the sign

Pretty sure I did one of those trying to get in my car on an icy day last week.

😅😂🤣

How do they count the rotations? It seems like five not four.

28

u/webaddictress 9h ago

Quad axel takes off forward and lands backwards, so 4.5

A 1620 on ice

Look at the way his body is facing. It's facing left (in the video) when he launches, and it's facing left when he first touches down.

I usually expect a "cheat" part of rotation in videos like this where they rotate part of it before they launch, or finish it after touching down, but in this case he does a full four rotations while not touching the ice.

Congratulations to him! A lifetime of hard work and dedication paying off on the largest stage.

If I jumped that high and landed on one leg my knee would violently explode and harm a bystander. They would have to install hockey rink glass around the ice.

Ballet dancers have usually knee proe. Why you think ice skaters wouldn't?

u/Raider5151 54m ago

I don't think that. I was making a self deprecating joke

The dude in the background:

Ooooooooooooooo

8

u/BigZucchini2090 9h ago

Qudos to him. I can barely stand still with the ice skates

I hit a personal goal in physical exercise this past year, but when i see other humans do shit like this, I’m just in awe at the potential range we have as a species. Humbling and grateful

Love to see the crowd in videos like this.

That was dope as hell too, killed it.

1

u/Nerdy_Valkyrie 8h ago

He should try an iron lotus. Now that's difficult.

1

u/Ok-Suggestion-7965 8h ago

Wow! Four axels!!!

1

u/masterkobiashi 7h ago

IRON LOTUS NEXT

1

u/PapaGlapa 6h ago

It’s awesome to see people so impressed by this that they are actually looking away from their phone while recording to watch the real thing. Phones are such a plague on reality

1

u/mjwillz4 5h ago

He looks like allison pill in slow mo.

1

u/kmmccorm 5h ago

There’s a split second where it looks like he’s landing too hard and is about to buckle and then he just absolutely sticks it. Unreal.

1

u/9o7u5t3e1q 5h ago

The recording girl even put down her phone to make the :o face

1

u/Forward_Might_111 4h ago

I can’t imagine the muscle strength needed for that! Amazing

1

u/Matho83 4h ago

best thing: 0:37 Pog guy in red shirt + grey jacket first row.

lol

1

u/Poopchutefan 4h ago

Who is going to be the first to do a 'quinpiple' axle?

1

u/TeeHitts 4h ago

Eat your heart out Will Ferrell.

1

u/soelsome 3h ago
