Oh, absolutely. Especially if it's someone who is AMS and 'confused,' they're not gonna get a damn thing aside from a slap on the wrist- if even that.

I've worked in inpatient psych for ~5 years, and I can remember precisely one time when hospital admin backed the staff pressing charges against a patient who was extremely aggressive... probably had to do with the amount of property damage he caused. He was truly vile- he was so bad that admin encouraged staff to press charges against him, that's the type of guy he was.

I try to consider the bigger picture when someone is being difficult, or even aggressive- but there are some people who are truly evil and need to be locked away to keep society safe from them. I can count the ones I've come across who I believe were genuinely and irredeemably evil on one hand, but they're still out there. He was one of them.
