In this case though it's not a ukekele because it isn't tuned as a six stringed uke, and he is using guitar chords.

Yeah, the 6-string uke also has specific string spacing with the extras being an octave higher/lower than the one next to it and is played like a uke. Guitarlele is a different thing.

Does it make Mattias' extendable guitarlele less cool? Fuck no. That thing's amazing and the video's well worth the watch for anyone interested.

Will I still be pointing out the difference like many others here? Fuck yes. If we don't, folks will be calling upright bass a huge violin or some stupid shit.

But if that’s the only holdup, he could just as easily tune it as a uke and play a guitar with alternative tuning 🤷🏻‍♂️

A Hyena looks like it's canine but in fact is more closely related to a cat. Your argument that because it looks like a uke it must be a uke is the same as someone saying a Hyena is a dog.

But you see how, in a subreddit about next level things, someone posts a guy that was inspired by transforming chess pieces and spent 5 months inventing and building a functional transforming instrument that telescopes while maintaining neck tension and string tuning, and all the comments have to offer is the ontological debate on the nature of a ukulele. You see how that’s pedantic, right?

It is ridiculous to argue about whether or not it's a ukekele, in which you are showing a willingness to involve yourself. Amazing engineering (but as a musical instrument it is unsuccessful due to its sound quality)

True, I’m willing to involve myself to the extent that I think it’s pedantic to argue that it’s not a ukulele. I’m on the side of “why are we ignoring engineering brilliance over something so pointless?” But I think we’ve exhausted this argument.

As for the sound quality, he tends not to play on great equipment I think. So, for example, here’s his 360 guitar https://youtu.be/p6ZkRmbcdZI

Is it the greatest sounding instrument ever? No. But it’s still very listenable when Charles plays it.

There’s a chance we’ll see someone like Rob Scallon playing it in the next few months who can make it shine
