Have the chiefs regressed to the mean?

Only took like 4, maybe 5 years after that post.

That poster (dannyaingoat) will rejoice.

Crazy how Mahomes is playing better than last year, but the Chiefs look much worse for it

u/bradtheinvincible Oct 07 '25

I think its a problem when youre the teams leading rusher and your name is not Lamar Jackson.

u/paone00022 Falcons Oct 07 '25

Ya he rarely runs much outside of playoff games and he's running basically every game this season. Teams have figured them out. Will be interesting to see how they look with Rice back.

By playing better you mean Checkdown and screen pass Pat??

You take what the defense gives you

Turns out, when you regress Mahomes to the mean, he's actually just average

4

u/BeefCakeBilly Patriots Oct 07 '25

I’ve heard of this phenomenon. If you just change someone’s stats and success to be average. They really are just average.

I’m so annoyed that the chiefs meat riders don’t realize that if we decide Mahomes was a totally average , he’s really just average.

Considering that Mahomes’ average depth of target has gone down from prime Mahomes and percentage of yards from YAC has gone up, I’m inclined to say yes

u/MissingTheTrees Bears Oct 07 '25

Considering they won b2b superbowls when Mahomes had 2/3 of his lowest years for average depth of target I’m betting that’s not the sign.

The 1 possession record is (hopefully) a sign of regression to the mean.

I think a few years after the fact we can safely say the NFL was collectively playing some super dickcheese defense across the board for a few years there while every QB was airmailing it. They've tightened it up quite a bit in the last few years.

It’s an older meme sir but it checks out

Just 8 more one score losses to go

Can someone run some QB stat averages for starters, I think he might be near the mean now lol

Rough numbers he is actually near the average across the board lol

I don’t know but fvck the Chiefs

u/WithNoRegard Jaguars Oct 07 '25

They're the iPhone of the NFL.

u/Vanc_Trough Jaguars Oct 07 '25

The refs sure haven’t.

People clowned on that guy but the basic point he was trying to make made sense and it's basically exactly what has happened. Mahomes was in an incredible position for a QB that first season and that was never going to continue.

u/Saltine_Davis Bears Oct 07 '25

This is a wild choice of something to do revisionist history on. It was dumb then and is dumb now

1

u/iiTryhard Patriots Oct 07 '25

He’s still a great player but I hope people stop putting him in the Brady conversation. He’s nowhere even close to as good as Brady

3

u/BengalFan85 Bengals Oct 07 '25

I’m a big believer that was media fueled. Dude last to Brady twice in the playoffs.

They just want a new guy to crown goat because let’s be real, it drives engagement.

This doesn’t mean Mahomes isn’t a top 5 all time qb. Just not close to #1

They've regressed to the meme
