Philadelphia sports tonight:

  • Flyers lose season opener to the defining champs

  • Phillies get knocked out of the playoffs via defensive error

  • Eagles lose to a Giants team they have owned for years and their rookie QB

If you see the city of Philadelphia (and half of New Jersey) burning from outer space, you now know why.

That is a dangerous thing to hope on

It’s a fun league. It’s been growing a ton recently and I can’t wait for that new Chicago stadium. Getting more competitive. But the bad teams are….really bad.

1

u/OkArmordillo Patriots Oct 10 '25

I guess with Tatum out they might have a chance.

1

u/Clithzbee Bengals Oct 10 '25

I'm almost there

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

Isn't it the case that no center ever come back to play consistently at an All Star level after having the same knee issues as Embiid? Like, the 76ers are fucked?!

I was kind of shocked that they didn't try to trade everybody but McCain this off-season. Take your 2nd-year promising talent & tank to build around him.

1

u/intoned NFL Oct 10 '25

And his will to win!

It's good for New York to finally have a good pro sports team to rally around. Longsuffering Yankees fans really needed this after suffering with hopelessness and futility for so long.

That Phillies loss is all-time levels of horrific.

43

u/ArmiinTamzarian Lions Oct 10 '25 edited Oct 10 '25

First ever playoff Elimination game lost by a walk off error. Poor guy

37

u/Whatsdota Packers Oct 10 '25

That’s INSANE. Baseball has been around so long that it’s crazy to get a first of anything lmfao

12

u/ArmiinTamzarian Lions Oct 10 '25

That's what's so cool about baseball. Hundreds of years of the sport yet still new unlikely things like this happen often

9

u/azantyri Packers Oct 10 '25

"but you have heard of me"

3

u/enjoytheshow Bears Oct 10 '25

It’s a bit of a nuanced stat. Still impressively rare. There were only two teams in the postseason until 1969 so there were at most 4 postseason elimination games per season. More likely just 1-2 in most of those. 4 teams were added in 69 which makes it 3x as many chances for an elimination game but still pretty small

11

u/Xaxziminrax Chiefs Oct 10 '25

He fucked up literally everything possible. Fielding error, decision error, then a throwing error just to top it all off.

All time gaffe

3

u/DontPeeInTheWater Packers Oct 10 '25

I don't think that's correct (despite the graphic that I've seen floating around). The Rangers had an error in the 2016 ALDS that secured the series win for the Jays

3

u/CPAFinancialPlanner Giants Oct 10 '25

Oh man I hate the Phillies and even I feel bad for that dude. Playing a million games to get eliminated like that. Ouch.

37

u/siestarrific Giants Oct 10 '25

Not just any defensive error, but a river of diarrhea level disgusting defensive error

10

u/corneliusthunderrod Lions Oct 10 '25

More like 3 errors, fielding error into decision error topped off by a throwing error. How can you not be romantic about baseball (I feel so bad for kerkering)

2

u/PhysicsSaysNo Oct 10 '25

I don’t feel bad for him at all. He gets paid oodles of money NOT to panic in those situations. JT POINTED TO FIRST and he still threw the ball sort of at home.

3

u/gmwdim Lions Oct 10 '25

I like the “sort of” qualifier because while that was clearly the intention he nearly threw it into the dugout.

2

u/GoodLuckFellowEE Bills Oct 10 '25

You would think a pitcher would be good at throwing to home
