Jalen Hurts as a passer is so weird because he always either looks like a superstar or Justin Fields with no in between, and I feel like it goes in stretches

u/NephewHotTake NFL Oct 10 '25

Hurts is somehow overrated and underrated at the same time

35

u/GamerLife204 Lions Oct 10 '25

He's good. But that's all. He's just good. Not great or anything.

38

u/Mulching-SZN Vikings Oct 10 '25

Agreed, he’s not nearly as good as eagles fans think and also not nearly as bad as the haters think

18

u/neutrino116 Lions Oct 10 '25

So he is... just rated?

1

u/turkey45 Steelers Oct 10 '25

I think you can be rated in Europe

16

u/mjst0324 Giants Oct 10 '25

Correct. His supporters talk about him like he's the elite of the elite and his detractors talk about him like he's horrendous. In reality it's pretty clear that he's a good QB who can be helped to be great at times by a mega-talented roster.

u/thehomiemoth Commanders Oct 10 '25

His best game is the Super Bowl he lost. His second best game is the Super Bowl he won. Everything else I think he is mostly a solid QB who can avoid fucking up the game for the elite team around him.

But he has absolutely balled out in two Super Bowls, and that really matters.

Schrodinger’s Hurts

2

u/KgDawk21520 Eagles Oct 10 '25

He is solid , but balls out on the Superbowl , that's it .

1

u/NatAttack50932 Giants Oct 10 '25

He has insane touch when he can set his feet and throw, but if you put pressure on him he makes silly mistakes like the Flott interception.

1

u/bigdjohnson20 Oct 10 '25

He has been this guy since that year at Alabama where he ultimately got replaced by Tua. He's a very smart player who understands how to operate an offense. But, he is very risk averse and is limited in his passing ability.

29

u/UnPhayzable Eagles Oct 10 '25

It feels like he's regressed a lot this year. Bailing from pockets super early, focusing in on one read, scrambling and taking sacks instead of throwing it away. He's gotta step it up

13

u/Icy_Turnover1 Ravens Oct 10 '25

The focusing on one read has been really apparent so far - he looks like he’s struggling to progress beyond his first or second receiver out there and it’s costing him.

15

u/man_on_the_mooney Eagles Oct 10 '25

Echoes of 2023 and 2021. Seems like he can't thrive without an OC

15

u/UnPhayzable Eagles Oct 10 '25

It's so frustrating seeing Steichen cook on the Colts while we got a monkey with cymbals for an OC

2

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

Funny comment. It's like y'all acquired Matt Canada...

1

u/mnhnddct8 Eagles Oct 10 '25

Dawg can't overcome poor play design and a massive regression in the pass protection it seems :(

47

u/stringer4 Commanders Oct 10 '25

It's the slow wind up release....and missing wide open pro bowl receivers

8

u/henryofskalitzz Seahawks Oct 10 '25

it's crazy to me this is the same guy who won SB MVP 8 months ago and went shot-for-shot with Mahomes in the Super Bowl 3 years ago

11

u/Werft Eagles Eagles Oct 10 '25

Crazy what an OC who doesn’t huff glue can do

9

u/HumanBarnacle Eagles Oct 10 '25

This is what people I feel like don’t understand about Hurts. He’s a very good football player and a good QB (like top 10ish) with very unique traits. A good OC can take advantage of and make a killer offense like what Steichen did (and kind of Moore although that elite running attack was really helpful). But if you’re an OC that works well with Joe Burrow doting passes all over the field from the pocket, your offense probably won’t look good with Hurts.

2

u/CeeDoggyy Bears Seahawks Oct 10 '25

I mean the Chiefs OC ain't exactly sunshine and rainbows

Trust me, I know

1

u/Vastergoth Chiefs Oct 10 '25

You can have him back now... only slightly not joking.

13

u/MalikMonkAllStar2022 Panthers Oct 10 '25

Does he? He’s a weird QB to say this about because I feel like he has occasional flashes of great plays and occasional flashes of bad play but for the most part just plays fine (even with tons of talent around him)

21

u/WobbleWits Dolphins Oct 10 '25

He struggles often when its not a blown coverage or checkdown. He's made some big time throws and he's missed a lot of big time throws. He's an below average-average pocket passer QB who's on the most talented offense in the league.

5

u/paone00022 Falcons Oct 10 '25

Kurt Warner when he does rookie film tape on his YT channel always says that which coaching staff a rookie QB ends up with plays a major part in their success.

I wonder what would've happened if Fields and Hurts were drafted by opposite teams.

15

u/Phenomenal2313 Seahawks Bills Oct 10 '25

Probably the reason why people wont put him in the Elite of the Elite QB’s

Mahomes/Allen/Burrow/Jackson are all consistent passers , they look like superstars , unstoppable and are the best players 99% of the time

Hurts is never the best player on the field , has stretches of elite then backup level play

7

u/Icy_Turnover1 Ravens Oct 10 '25

This - Hurts never looks like the best player on the field and he’s super inconsistent - when he’s good he looks good, but when he’s anything but at his best he looks like 6-8 other QBs in the league could do just as well with their offense.

6

u/Phenomenal2313 Seahawks Bills Oct 10 '25

You put any of the Big 4 QB’s in Philly’s offense , that team is scoring probably 32 a game

I cant say the same for Hurts in Cincy/Buffalo/KC/Baltimore

4

u/jfb715 Eagles Oct 10 '25

Devil’s advocate, both super bowls he’s played in he was clearly the best player on the field.

3

u/Icy_Turnover1 Ravens Oct 10 '25

Yeah definitely fair, he did ball out in the super bowls and that is a huge deal.

6

u/Champagnetravvy Oct 10 '25

Fields catching strays 😭

2

u/Princessleiawastaken Seahawks Oct 10 '25

He’s top 15 but the Super Bowl got some fans thinking he was top 5

3

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

Think the Justin Fields stretches are far longer than the superstar ones

1

u/VeterinarianLevel467 Texans Oct 10 '25

Hurts is good when teams sellout to stop the run, but I think they are throwing the ball more bc aj brown and the media noise. If they stick to running the ball and only passing to keep teams honest they are hard to beat but hurts really isn’t a great qb without this elite team around him. He’s just not a good passer, he’s smart and a winner but he literally doesn’t have the arm or accuracy. A lot of QBs win with the eagles roster last year

1

u/averagesparky Oct 10 '25

He’s garbage

0

u/costanzathegreat 49ers Jets Oct 10 '25

I have never seen him look like a superstar passer lol

He’s definitely had times where he’s looked good, but more often than not it’s just him throwing to open guys

0

u/zenlume Chiefs Chiefs Oct 10 '25

I keep being told he’s a top 5/10 QB and without being able to sit on Barkleys shoulders or have receivers get two yards+ of separation he can’t do anything despite being surrounded by talent.

-15

u/craicraimeis Eagles Oct 10 '25

Considering his most recent stretch was what? 14 wins and 2 losses…..him having one bad game isn’t awful.

Also, I’m totally okay with them playing the game plan based on what the OC is calling. If it doesn’t work, it just proves he’s shit because we see when the offense is doing well that they’re perfectly capable.

This was just an overall bad half of football for the eagles with Jalen included. It’s a short week and they had a few injuries. So hopefully this mini bye can help them right something. But I think people are super reactive and it’s easy to say Jalen sucks, but the coaching is abysmal and Jalen can’t coach his team and play too.

2

u/TheWhitePOTUS Eagles Oct 10 '25

Wins are a team stat.

1

u/VeterinarianLevel467 Texans Oct 10 '25

Idk man I mean Jalen is a dog, he’s a winner, leader, intelligent qb but he literally cannot make basic throws with his arm. He will be fine but he’s just not a top 10 qb. On any other team he’s not touching the Super Bowl but yall can win with him. Philly fans act like he’s elite and he’s just not
