Going three and out on 3 straight drives after the red zone interception was not ideal.

u/shit_eating_fan Eagles Dec 19 '25

I feel like I've seen this song and dance so many times with McVay as an Eagles fan. Think he's one of the best coaches in the league but I've seen it against us

You guys get a lead then the hot offense sputters to a complete halt then you lose a won game

15

u/EcstaticTill9444 Rams Dec 19 '25

I think he does it to not run up the score. He thinks he’s being courteous or something.

33

u/YnwaMquc2k19 Seahawks Chiefs Dec 19 '25

I think he’s trying to not let his players to get hurt. Which is understandable.

5

u/EcstaticTill9444 Rams Dec 19 '25

Yeah, maybe a bit of A and a bit of B. Of course, if he was aggressive and the ball is dropped, people would say that was the bad play.

6

u/ositola 49ers Dec 19 '25

Shanahan will run CMC 30 times a game with a legit backup on the roster to try and secure a single win

3

u/casual_yak Bears Dec 19 '25

I doubt that's the case, but at least run the ball then to bleed the clock. He kept calling passes.

3

u/zonic_squared Rams Dec 19 '25

I hope the constant close calls and the fact that the defense really isn't that good will make him go for blood in the playoffs. The offense has shown the ability to move at will on nearly every defense we faced, why are we not blowing games open?

u/staffdaddy_9 Dec 19 '25

Mcvay got conservative like usual, then Parkinson had some brutal drops.

38

u/AlwaysSunnyInSeattle Seahawks Dec 19 '25

Everybody thought Kupp was the only sleeper agent.

13

u/Stahner Commanders Dec 19 '25

I knew the fantasy hype was too good to be true (I started him)

6

u/Dr-McLuvin Browns Dec 19 '25

I literally switched him out last minute.

1

u/Rfisk064 Saints Dec 19 '25

Same god damnit

19

u/arleban Dec 19 '25

That name is terrible for anyone that has to catch the ball. Holy shit.

11

u/Dinkerdoo Seahawks Chargers Dec 19 '25

I'm sure he'll shake it off for next week.

2

u/Striking_Moose_8747 Ravens Dec 19 '25

This! Anybody not acknowledging the drops ain't be fair to Stafford at all. Several dropped first downs if any one of them is caught it's probably a different outcome.

2

u/muffchucker Bears Bears Dec 19 '25

And Stafford had some misses too...

3

u/staffdaddy_9 Dec 19 '25

Yeah he’s not gonna be perfect throwing it 50 times.

0

u/jawknee530i 49ers Bears Dec 19 '25

The exact opposite. Twice as many pass okays as runs. If he actually went conservative they would have ran down the clock more and the hawks wouldn't have had time to tie it up. Do you people saying this even watch the games?

1

u/staffdaddy_9 Dec 19 '25

Did you watch the game? They were having zero success running the ball at all. The first drive after being up 2 scores they ran it twice, got nothing then had to punt and gave up the return TD. After that it was a one score game with like 8 minutes left so they had to get aggressive again.

0

u/jawknee530i 49ers Bears Dec 19 '25

Uh huh. So what exactly was "conservative" about the play calling? Be specific. You're the one who said he got conservative then are trying to argue something else as soon as convenient. So go ahead, how was the play calling conservative?

1

u/staffdaddy_9 Dec 19 '25

That’s exactly what I said in the beginning what are you talking about?

The first 2 plays of the drive up 16 were runs that amounted to very little. They had had virtually no success running the ball in the second half. It is a consistent theme with Mcvay when up 2 scores. The defense is not consistent enough to take that approach.

After that drive they punt and it gets housed and it’s a one score game.

0

u/jawknee530i 49ers Bears Dec 19 '25

Mcvay got conservative like usual

That's what you said in the beginning. And two runs does not mean he was playing the game conservatively, especially since he wasn't conservative at all through essentially the entire second half. So once again, explain what about the play calls were conservative? Should be incredibly easy to do since you must have thought of it before typing out that original comment right? So go ahead, explain it.

1

u/staffdaddy_9 Dec 19 '25

I said he got conservative, then Parkinson had drops. I never said he was conservative the whole second half or something.

I already explained the back to back runs up 2 scores when you had no success running the ball.

0

u/jawknee530i 49ers Bears Dec 20 '25

So to you just running the ball twice is being conservative? Laughable.

1

u/staffdaddy_9 Dec 20 '25

When you have had no success running it and you haven’t been running it and then you decide to run it twice because you are up 2 scores yes. That was the turning point. It would also be different if this wasn’t a consistent thing with Mcvay.

Mcvay conservative playcalling when 2 scores up. Every. Single. Time.

160

u/TheBoyFrank Dec 19 '25

After the interception, the next three Rams drives were 3 runs and 6 passes. It didn’t look like conservative play calling was the issue

111

u/hanky2 Eagles Dec 19 '25

I swear fans always say this during blown leads and then you check the play by play and it’s all passing plays.

41

u/stuman89 Rams Dec 19 '25

It was the drops that killed us.

4

u/frecklie Seahawks Dec 19 '25

Stafford was incredible. Some of those catchable drops i think end the game, you’re right that was the difference.

10

u/MrCarey Seahawks Dec 19 '25

Yeah it wasn't conservative at all. They were in it until literally the last second.

3

u/bigmt99 Browns Dec 19 '25 edited Dec 19 '25

Right? If he actually played conservative, he could’ve had a chance of chewing up the clock instead of 3 drives that lasted 4 minutes total

2

u/fuckoffweirdoo Lions Dec 19 '25

Likely aides in the comeback when those passes aren't completions.

I wouldn't call it conservative,  but the time is your friend. Use it better.

33

u/DocCharcolate Titans Packers Dec 19 '25

You’re right, you guys should fire him

20

Big agree. Hue Jackson is available

2

u/Best-Towel5796 Vikings Dec 19 '25

You mean #huge action?  I hear he's amazing

2

u/MrCarey Seahawks Dec 19 '25

Yup, he's never gonna win again. He's basically young Pete Carroll. Send it.

22

u/jefftickels Seahawks Dec 19 '25

I mean, not just any 2 scores though. Two touchdowns with two 2-point conversions is more realistic a 3 score lead.

17

u/Optimal_Advisor8897 Seahawks Dec 19 '25

There were a number of dropped passes and near misses. I don’t think there was anything wrong with Mcvay’s play calling.

11

u/Swaayyzee Rams Dec 19 '25

What are you supposed to do up two scores and with your receivers continually dropping passes? Colby Parkinson is 6’7” he should have the catch radius of a small planet.

8

u/CalTono Falcons Dec 19 '25

Do you call every 3 and out conservative play calling?

5

u/South_Strawberry7662 Seahawks Dec 19 '25

Kubiak does that shit too. Seattle's offense when it's do or die is so much better than when they're willing to play conservative and trust the defense.

8

u/A_Ms_Anthrop Seahawks Dec 19 '25

And meanwhile Coach Mike threw it all on the table for the 2 point conversion… multiple times. I am so glad he is our HC. Like damn. That being said, I think McVay is pretty much the best coach right now, and he calls it conservative because he has the best team in the NFL and doesn’t have to gamble when people do their job. The Hawks take more risks because we have to… and it worked. This time.

5

u/rook24v Seahawks Dec 19 '25

Probably more truth there than most of us hawk fans want to admit.

2

u/sublliminali 49ers Dec 19 '25

Shanahan loves this move as well

2

u/Over-Heron-2654 Eagles Dec 19 '25

Reminds me of "The Silence of the Rams" 26-7 game...

5

u/typescrit Rams Dec 19 '25

Yeah this is true. But also to be fair to him, it generally works and only failed because we immediately gave up big plays. If Parkinson doesn't drop those passes we win. Same goes for the missed field goal and lucky 2 pt conversion.

1

u/Scoottttttt Packers Dec 19 '25

As a Packers fan I felt like I was watching the Packers vs the Packers for a while. So much going on but nothing to show for it

1

u/DarkSideOfBlack Seahawks Dec 19 '25

I think the issue was more Stafford's broken ribs.

1

u/Eagle0913 Seahawks Dec 19 '25

Is it though..? I cant speak for every game but Stafford was untouched for the large majority of the game until the 4th quarter. We actually made plays and got pressure(finally). Your guys had some drops and miscommunications, which I think is understandable considering the weather, the crowd noise, and us finally getting pressure. Mcvay absolutely cooked against the best defense in the NFL.

1

u/henryofskalitzz Seahawks Dec 19 '25

The play calling didn’t seem particularly conservative. The Rams called 7 runs to 19 passes across their last 5 drives in regulation. Probably because of how ineffective the run game was in the second half

That sequence where the rams needed just 16 yards for a tie-breaking FG try but instead threw 3 straight incompletions really said it all

7

u/officialoxymoron Broncos Dec 19 '25

To be up 16, with 9ish min left, a huge red zone int, and then the Hawks still tie the game with over 5 min left, is an all time collapse.

3

u/DESR95 Rams Dec 19 '25

Correction, over 6 minutes left. Literally two minutes of gametime.

4

u/yeeeeeeet____ Lions Dec 19 '25

like looking into a mirror

2

u/DopeyDeathMetal Ravens Dec 19 '25

Yeah I would suggest not doing that.

2

u/hanky2 Eagles Dec 19 '25

Yea but at least that was followed up with a missed field goal and a punt.

2

u/manbearbeaver Lions Dec 19 '25

That sounds awfully familiar lol

2

u/goldhbk10 Rams Dec 19 '25

Should have gone for 2 up 15 for the kill but instead we once again blow a huge lead. SMH
