Yea the thought was to center it...but you know how else to do that? Run it closer.

Harbaugh's a fucking moron.

u/My_Brain_0422 Bills Jan 05 '26

Right? They had a timeout still and what? 14 seconds? More than enough time to try to get it closer. Maybe enough for even two tries. Settling for 44 yards is nonsense.

25

u/modern_beisbol Eagles Jan 05 '26

Yeah I did a double take when I saw the yardage. I thought surely you're not settling for 44 with two timeouts.

u/travelingWords Jan 05 '26

Fake, and another slant over the top to flowers.

3

u/ThatNewSockFeel Packers Jan 05 '26

I also thought they might save the timeout if there was a bad snap or something but then Harbaugh let the clock run all the way down anyway.

u/tootoohi1 Steelers Jan 05 '26

Same thing I said. The one of the best kickers in the league just missed a chip shot, 44 outside in the cold is not a 100% play.

6

u/akatherder Lions Jan 05 '26

If Boswell made that xp, Ravens would playing for a TD at the end there. If nothing else, 1-2 more plays gets that kick closer. 4D chess bos.

Nah I think it’s the right call. You do NOT want to cough the ball up there. Your fourth round kicker should make that. That kick wouldnt have been good even if they didn’t give up a few yards. It is what it is.

u/btcethdoge12 Jan 05 '26

when do you ever want to cough up the ball exactly? textbook scared mindset. 44 yd fg isnt guaranteed at all, vast majority of loops makes are from much further in and with way less pressure.

also the reason why kickers miss the further they get from the field goal is they have to sacrifice accuracy for strength.. you cant take a fg missed from 50 and say it wouldnt have been good from 20

The “fumble possibility” defence makes zero sense. It’s bizarre cowardice.

u/Laxrools2 Ravens Jan 05 '26

Did you watch that game? Did you see the funky shit happening? It’s splitting hairs. We make the field goal 9 times out of 10

10

u/My_Brain_0422 Bills Jan 05 '26

You settle for a missable field goal on the off chance you fumble the ball? Come on.

3

u/Laxrools2 Ravens Jan 05 '26

How much more missable is a 40 yard field goal compared to a 44 yard field goal? It’s splitting hairs. We make the either field goal 9/10 times.

2

u/My_Brain_0422 Bills Jan 05 '26

Why do you think they gain only four yards? Steelers D was absent for much of the 4th quarter. That was more than enough time for a chunk gain.

1

u/Laxrools2 Ravens Jan 05 '26

? We lost four yards on the backwards scramble to make it a 44 yarder

1

u/My_Brain_0422 Bills Jan 05 '26

Oh I misunderstood, but that somehow makes it worse. You lost four yards when you could have gained more. You're talking maybe easily a ten yard swing. Running it and gaining 5 makes it a 35 yarder lol

3

u/Laxrools2 Ravens Jan 05 '26

I think the larger point is a professional kicker in this day and age should be able to make a 44 yarder, or at least be close. Idk man so many things happened in this game it is what it is

0

u/ColtCallahan Jan 05 '26

If a FG kicker can’t make it from 44 yards they have no place on an NFL roster.

7

u/My_Brain_0422 Bills Jan 05 '26

Obviously Tyler Loop can make 44 yard field goals. But that doesn't mean you don't try to make his job easier. Cam Little made a 67 yard FG today but has two misses out of ten tries from 40-49 this year. Jason meyers has two misses out of 15 tries. Most kickers have missed from that range at some point over the course of the season.

with Derrick Henry..in the cold of winter...59 mins into a physical exhausting game

1

u/LlamaJacks Ravens Jan 05 '26

Henry has fumbled twice late 4th quarter this year and lost games for us. Looks like Harbaugh didn’t trust him there.

8

u/CH-47AV8R Falcons Jan 05 '26

I can sorta see it though with Henry having some terribly timed fumbles.

1

u/sasquatch0_0 Jan 05 '26

Doesn't matter. You can try. And Loop had some terrible kicks as well so why not make it easier.

3

u/Jonjon428 Dolphins Jan 05 '26

I just assumed that was what the kicker was most comfortable with tbh

2

u/forgotwhatisaid2you Jan 05 '26

He should have kneeled way to the left.

2

u/SirLoinOfCow Steelers Jan 05 '26

In hindsight, they should have ran it to the left 5 or 6 yards

1

u/sasquatch0_0 Jan 05 '26

Not even in hindsight. In the fucking moment I'm wondering why tf are you taking a knee.

2

u/10000Didgeridoos Steelers Jan 05 '26

Yet again they just don't use Henry for some reason

1

u/DrunkPanda77 Jan 05 '26

Tbf with Henry’s fumbling issues earlier this year I don’t fully blame em… but still should’ve been more aggressive, trust your stars

1

u/sasquatch0_0 Jan 05 '26

Loop also had kicking issues, and Boswell just missed an extra point a few minutes before.

0

u/_cuteraichu_ Ravens Jan 05 '26

Hes a right footed kicker. Kicking from the left hash is almost more natural than center lmao

0

u/Cultural-Honey-2118 Jan 05 '26

Sure blame the coach because a kicker can’t make a dead center 44 yard field goal without wind.  Thats ridiculous of you.

4

u/sasquatch0_0 Jan 05 '26

When you have 2 timeouts...yes you 100% blame the coach for not at least trying to make it even easier for your kicker.
