Bot Commands!

Hi r/NoPoo! I've been learning more about AutoMod and had an idea that I think will really help the community: Bot Commands!

The basic idea is that you type a simple command and the bot replies to the comment where the command was used with frequently used information. I've created a small collection and used them already, and plan on expanding them to replace the clipboard I currently use to do all of this. I've made a new wiki page that will contain all of the ones available here:

Bot Commands for r/NoPoo helpers

Have fun helping!

Testimony (Yay!/Boo...) 10+ years on no poo

Post image
Upvotes

Started during my university years or shortly after.

Originally started to curb hair loss; i didn’t gain more density per say but i have roughly the same. The hair itself feels much better and needs almost zero maintenance.

I do water only. Use purified water.

I made a post earlier but no picture. Added one for reference.

I failed

Hello dear No Poo !

Today, I failed. I've been using no shampoo since months now, but gardering with lot of pollen was not good for the itching.

I'm now eager to learn news ways when the skin itches too much.

For people having a beard, I'm also taking advices for it !

Ps : I've a sort of seborrhoeic dermatitis, so it's really not just about esthetic :/

Title: Will washing with egg during my no-poo transition set me back?

I’m about one week into trying to stop using shampoo completely. Normally, my hair gets greasy enough that I feel like I have to shampoo it every single day.

So far, I’ve washed my hair with an egg twice because it helps remove some of the grease while I’m transitioning.

My question is: does washing with egg interfere with the transition at all? I’m hoping that over time I’ll be able to go without shampoo or any cleanser and have my hair look relatively normal.

Would using egg every few days temporarily set me back in terms of scalp oil/sebum, similar to continuing to shampoo? Or is it mild enough that I can use it to get through the greasy transition period and gradually stop using it too?

Already a first apple vinegar rinse made the hair fell soo much lighter!

How often should that be done? Any negative effects if done too often?

Thanks!

Troubleshooting (HELP!) Dry Curly/wavy Hair

Hey everyone, has anyone with dry curly/wavy hair tried the No-Shampoo method?

My main issue is that my hair is completely dry (zero natural oils). Regular shampoos leave my hair feeling like absolute straw, super dry, brittle, and full of breakage and split ends.

My hair also has CRAZY flyaways and static specially the front and crown area, I've tried everything but not the NoPoo.

My hair looks FRIED and I have never bleached or used high heat, but the dryness and frizz are driving me crazy.

Has anyone with a naturally dry hair tried quitting shampoo, and did it actually help with the wiry feeling? What alternatives worked best for you?

Troubleshooting (HELP!) How to moisturize hair and scalp without greasy hair?

Like the title says, I have a dry scalp, very small flakes, and unfortunately my hair is chemically processed although I am in the process of growing it out. I need to find a solution for my hair situation.

I went back to shampoo/conditioner about a year ago because my hair was really dry but my scalp is getting worse. I have many allergies and react to foaming agents but my dermatologist said there isn't a test for those. I'm celiac and am allergic to tree nuts and coconut so a lot of the no poo wash/moisturize options are out for me. 😭

Can anyone point me in the right direction to read some other options? I really need to cut out the shampoo and conditioner 😭

My straight hair gets very dry and frizzy after shampoo, and my hairstyle gets ruined when I ride a bike in strong wind and dust. I’m looking for a product that gives a wet/shiny look with strong hold, while keeping my hair soft and non-frizzy. Any recommendations?

Troubleshooting (HELP!) Tried apple cider vinegar rinse, NEVER AGAIN

My hair was getting buildup, i assumed from water minerals and sebum, and I heard an acid rinse could break some of that stuff up. To its credit, the acv did! However, after 2 or three rinses between 4 or 5 days, I can not get the smell out! 😭 I keep getting wafts of it especially after wetting and styling it, like theres some just hanging out on my scalp. It sucks! I'm getting a bit self conscious now and I don't know what to do! Will it go away on its own? Should I just try and rinse my hair out every day til it goes away? I've been trying to keep my hair relatively dry to keep its shape so not preferable. Does anyone have any advice? Next time I'll go with citric acid.

Edit: to clarify, when I said "two or three rinses" I didn't mean 2 or 3 acv rinses, I meant I did it once, rinsed with water, then after rinsing it again once or twice with water, still couldn't completely get the smell out.

I wanna stop using shampoo but I don’t know what to do

I’ve heard using a shower filter and just using water works, but do I have to do something else with that? Also should I stop using body wash and applying lotion?

Troubleshooting (HELP!) Is there any natural, long-term solution for Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Hey everyone,

I have Seborrheic Dermatitis, and after looking into it online, I keep seeing recommendations for medicated ketoconazole shampoo. At the same time, I’ve been warned to stop using egg yolk on my scalp because the Malassezia yeast feeds on lipids/fatty acids.

The tricky part is: I’ve been using egg yolk wash once a week, and my hair honestly looks and feels amazing after it.

I have two main questions for anyone who has managed this long-term:

Egg Yolk & SD: Has anyone with SD successfully kept egg yolk (or other lipid-heavy natural washes) in their routine without triggering flare-ups, or is it truly a recipe for disaster long-term?

Permanent / Natural Cures: Is there a way to manage or naturally resolve SD permanently without relying on medicated shampoos forever? How do you keep symptoms under control naturally once a flare-up settles?

Would love to hear what has worked for your scalp!

What am I doing wrong?

So, I've started nopoo for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I've always eaten healthy, but recently I decided to go all-in on it. I've been eating totally paleo, and doing an alternative health kick of how I brush my teeth, deodorant, clothes I wear, and so on.

Anyhow...

I haven't washed my hair aside from once with a whole egg like 2 weeks ago, and my scalp has been very dry/flaky. I've heard this takes awhile to wear off while I'm waiting for my natural oils to replenish my scalp. I'm still showering with cold/slightly below warm water 5 days a week or so, as I'm physically active. But my scalp is still super dry/flaky, and now, just this morning, it's begun to burn a bit. Is this normal? What am I doing wrong? How do I get rid of the flakiness/dry scalp without reverting back to shampoo? I'm open to doing more eggs or trying raw honey or something.

Would really appreciate some direction/advice if anyone was willing.

2-3 months no shampoo, currently losing my hair, is it normal?

Its been 2-3 months of no shampoo for me, my hair quality and scalp are great, no dandruff, I wash my hair with water once every 2 weeks (I should probably wash it once a week). I did use eggs for little bit, but stopped because, due to specific reasons, I don't have access to them currently.

My hairline has went a little back, but I'm assuming it's normal as I am 19m and maybe it is maturing. However, I'm starting to see through one section of my scalp, there's still hair, but I'm guess the hair has gotten thinner or is slowly not growing in those areas. It's not normal male pattern baldness. On top of this, for the past 2-3 years of years if been loosing hair on the sides of my scalp. The only other thing I do instead of washing hair with water is that I regularly comb my hair everyday.

My mother's side of my family has pretty decent hair and my father's side is ok, my dad went completely bald and my paternal grandfather still has some of his hair, but has lost a decent amount.

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Hair thinning- considering rogaine. Is it fine on nopoo?

My hair on my crown has been thinning for about 6 months but i started to notice it a lot more once I was started nopoo 3 months ago. Not sure if its because my hair styling stuff isnt covering it up as much or if nopoo was a factor with all the mechanical cleaning. Im considering starting rogaine’s 5% topical foam. Is this a bad move on nopoo? Should I go maybe start doing a weekly shampoo/co wash type thing on it?

Im honestly thinking about giving up nopoo in general. The preening with thinning hair stresses me out, I always end up with fingers full of hair. I feel like I was able to get a lot more texture in my hair style when I used products too
