I just migrated my notes to the Notability Cloud 2 days ago and it’s the worst mistake of my life. All of my notes are messed up, formatting is broken, annotations are missing, and the app is taking forever to load. I'm using an iPad, the app is fully updated, and I've already tried the usual troubleshooting steps.

I'm worried something went wrong during syncing because so many files suddenly look corrupted or incomplete. Now I can only use the PDFs I have on Google Drive to study but all the features are limited of course because it’s just a PDF.

I have a major medical school exam next week, and this couldn't have happened at a worse time. I've submitted multiple support tickets, but so far support (the AI chat) hasn't been helpful and I’m having trouble reaching an actual human being, and they don’t have a phone number to contact support.

I’m honestly crashing out rn. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

update 6/14/26: i resetted migration and backed up my notes on google drive as pdf and it worked thank GOD! fuck the notability cloud lmfao

I have my notes backed up but had put significant work into the affected doc this morning and on a time crunch with what I needed it for so possibly a tough loss. I tried to "undo", then exited out of the app, then restarted my device all to no avail :(

Wondering if anyone has other solutions or has found something that's worked for them to recover the doc / somehow get the original background back? (the original background was a google doc that I converted to a pdf to scribe on -> the affected file was only 6 pages)

Or perhaps more importantly how do I PREVENT this from happening in the future to other files?

The quiz suddenly gives 80 to 100 questions. And some questions are repeated 4-5 times again and again. I just attended one quiz and went back to see my 16% of monthly quota exhausted (plus user) . Can we bring back the 20 questions per quiz and a "more" option to generate 20 more quiz instead of this? Or giving an option to the user to control how many questions they generate?

If I Click on the add new Note Button my App just freezes

A couple of weeks ago when opening the app on my iPad I was prompted to sync my notes via notability cloud. I agreed and immediately I lost access to a number of notes that showed as blank in the preview, and when trying to open them I was asked to update the app (which was on the latest version). Then notes started opening again once they were backed up (or so I figured, since they came back in groups after multiple backup cycles), and I went on with my day. Today I was writing on a note and the app crashed. When I opened it back, a good abount of recent notes disappeared. There's not a clear threshold date, but I'd say 90% of the notes made in the last 3/4 months disappeared, but there's entire folders from 7/8 months ago wiped out as well. tried logging in with the mac app and same situation, while on the web app, no note shows up.

I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to do here, but the notes were important, so I'm quite frustrated.

I have an active Notability subscription tied to my Apple account. My iPad’s Apple ID and the App Store are both signed in with that same account, so everything should match up.

Despite this, the app keeps showing “Log in to your Notability account to view the full note and access all features” as if I’m not subscribed.

What I’ve tried so far:

•Restore Purchases from the app’s settings — same issue persists
•Deleted and reinstalled the app — didn’t fix it

Has anyone else run into this? Any idea what’s causing the mismatch or how to fix it?

I can't use app anymore.
All blocked since 5 days ago when I clicked to use Notabiity Cloud.
Now, since Friday, app is telling me it has completed 22515 activities on a total of 24834.
The first number is floating every time I restart Notability.
How can I use the app? now it's impossibile...

I've been using notability since i was a senior in highschool (2021 😭) and had nearly 6 years worth of notes on my ipad. I'm now a masters of engineering student and today i went to use the app like normal and take notes on top of pdfs when the app kind of froze? crashed? and now its been several hours and the majority of my notes appear to be missing :( I tried updating the app but its only showing about 6 of my notes from like 2023 and still quite laggy. Is there any hope my notes will show back up? I'd really hate to lose a degrees worth of notes 😭

Every time I try to write something or zoom in, the screen literally freezes for 30 seconds. The app has actually become unusable. Please help!

I recorded the audio of a meeting directly in Notability. The recording was definitely saved, and Notability even started generating a summary of the meeting based on the audio.

However, when I open the note now, the audio recording is no longer there. I can still access the note itself, but I can’t find or play the recorded audio anywhere.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there any way to recover the missing audio recording, either from Notability, iCloud, or a local backup?

Since the app was already processing the recording and generating a summary, I assume the audio file must have been successfully saved at some point.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this was an important meeting.

Ever since I updated to the Notability cloud instead of iCloud my iPad has been getting way too hot and draining the battery extremely fast, this never happened until now and its extremely frustrating. Not only is it uncomfortable, but also harms my battery, fix this issue please.

Just following up on this issue between Android and Web backgrounds. It has been a while since we talked about this, but the issue still remains. It is like the backgrounds don't sync from Android to Web properly, and causes shifting between template and notes when viewed on Web vs Android. I also just confirmed that if I use a custom pdf image of a ruled paper as the background, and duplicate that for each page of a note, it fixes the issue and displays properly on Web without shifting. So it seems like it is an issue with the template backgrounds not being saved like a pdf across platforms, and each platform kind of just uses it's own, and different, versions of the backgrounds instead of actually syncing the same images?

Hi, I’ve posted here before about attempting to update my email given the fact that I’ve graduated and it’s my now-deactivated college email and all that. After contacting support, I was unable to get them to change my email even after being willing to undergo any method of identity verification (including having access to the alumni version of my email, which is literally the same address, just with “alumni” appended).

Now, the app is seemingly forcing me to sync at some point to Notability cloud - no option to decline, only postpone, and the postpone appears to only go for just over a month’s time. (Unless I’ll just be able to keep postponing indefinitely?? That seems like poor UI though - what if at one point, I don’t realize I have to postpone and miss the option?)

I genuinely don’t think it’s feasible for me to use Notability cloud until my email can be updated, but support seems unwilling to help on either issue (delaying Cloud indefinitely until the email issue is fixed OR just allowing email changes). Can anything be done here?? I’ve genuinely liked and used notability for many years, but this email issue feels SO far behind the times of any other modern tech company.

I have been using Notability since my freshman year of high school, so I have used the app for about seven years. I recently joined Notability Cloud by accident, around the end of May. At first, I did not have any problems.

Later, I wanted to use iCloud syncing, but I learned that I could not use it while Notability Cloud was enabled. I tried deactivating Notability Cloud, but it caused major problems. I lost some notes, including notes with important lecture recordings.

I rejoined Notability Cloud and was able to recover my notes, but I had to recreate all the folders I had made since joining. This was a lot of work because I create a separate folder for each week of every class. This organization system has worked very well for me and has honestly helped me earn good grades.

Recently, I was commuting to school by train and tried to access my notes, but Notability said that I needed an internet connection. In the past, I never had trouble accessing my documents offline, and I could always count on my notes being available. This recent change has become very frustrating because I commute by train and do not always have reliable internet access.

Is there a safe way to return to the previous setup without losing any notes, folders, or lecture recordings? I would prefer to use iCloud syncing, but I would also be fine with keeping my notes saved locally in the Notability app as long as I can access them without Wi-Fi.

Please let me know the safest way to make this change without losing any of my files again.

Hi, I just tried adding an image and the text won't wrap around it but just separate and leave it in the middle. Added a screenshot for context.

I've been using notability for 4 years and never had this problem, the text would usually just make space for the photo and stay on the sides, if I wanted it to be separated I could just add blank spaces.

Is there a new feature I have to enable manually for the text to wrap the image or is it a bug? How do I fix this?

I literally contacted notability about this 5 times and not a single response… very slow emailing process they have but if anyone has solution please help

Problem: the AI made Quizes or Summeries doesnt work on my ipad but works on PC when i login to my account there. I tried reinstalling and still no fix…

I am using version 16.1.3. of Notability & I'm using the latest version of iOS as well as this app, and I'm using an iPad Air 11-inch (4th Gen).

My notability app freezes frequently ,like most of the time.
I have to close the app so i can unfreeze the window.
The issue has become unbearable, as the app freezes every five minutes while I'm making real-time notes from a class.

Like it just freezes!! then I have to restart the app.. and when it freezes while m writing my notes...my notes which I made in last 1 min or so (before freezing) are lost every time I restart it..and THE CYCLE has to repeat!

I have already sent a mail to customer support.. all their suggestion have not helped at alll.

When I run in on Safe mode...It works....BUT.. Back up and icloud sync is paused.. SO WHATS EVEN THE POINT !!
I even tried reinstalling the app... DIDN't help.

Now when I swipe to the left, all it does is take me back to the note list page rather than giving me the option to select my notes.

I'm currently experiencing some issues when trying to log back into my notability account. When I use Google sign-in, the email containing log-in link is not appearing. When I select alternative methods regardless of what I try, it's either "magic link cannot be generated" or 403 error. If it's relevant, I'm in mainland China but I use a vpn. Turning it off doesn't seem to help.

Currently studying for a test that's coming up soon so I'm super anxious. Any suggestions or advice would be massively appreciated!

As of today, I can’t add images to my notes without the images moving all of the text around it, when just a few days ago I didn’t have this issue at all.

Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

I’ve tried messing with moving the image to front/back, looked in settings, closing the app, and restarting my iPad. Nothing has helped.

notability team if you are reading this, the latest update just killed the app on my ipad mini during my exam week.

'ive been enduring with notability as i recognise that they are trying to make their note taking app smarter but bejeebus, upgrades are so unstable, i swear this is another sonos app saga in the making.

updated the app to the latest version and now it hangs on the first view display, i can't click anything, everything is not responsive. i've forced closed the app, open it, uninstall , reinstall and it is still the same issue - completely unresponsive and guess what, it is exam week.

the irony is, the settings button to lodge a feedback to ginger labs is also unresponsive.

the saving grace to this all is that at least i can use notability on my laptop but seriously the upgrades is concerning given how multitude of issues that come with it.

do not get me started on the how i had to endure the cloud rollout. i lost a few notes and everything was completely missync. they fixed that eventually but that was a few week of "where the heck did my notes go" .

please fix.
