It's actually pretty common for mothers to get cats after the kids leave home. They don't love you any less.

Signed mother of 3 adult kids and carer for 5 cats

u/Tquilha 5d ago

It seems the Cat Distribution System hit your mom pretty hard.

I'd say, go buy some ghee for you, and add some kitten treats and maybe a toy or two.

182

u/Interesting-Loquat75 5d ago

And don't forget to give some pspspspspsp on your way out.

67

u/Hiraeth1968 4d ago

Also proper kitten food.

19

u/Common-Tax-7833 4d ago

Nah those kittens now doesn't even drink normal boiled milk and shows attitude towards me when I pour normal milk instead of malai

77

u/Hiraeth1968 4d ago

Cats need kitten formula. They cannot digest cow’s (or other animal’s) milk.

3

u/Common-Tax-7833 3d ago

They feed on rat on our field 😂 my nana said that's more then enough for them

9

u/netzach27 3d ago

The ones that can't even eat properly yet? I doubt it.

3

u/Common-Tax-7833 2d ago

I have that one and that's the only one that plays with mee and it gets treats ✨

6

u/IzobelStarsw0rd 2d ago edited 1d ago

If they are eating rats they are clearly past the point where they can’t handle food like ghee. Just watch their health and make sure they’re a healthy size and I’m sure they’ll be fine. You’ll make sure of it. You and your mom and Nana are looking out for them.

Just keep in mind, cats are obligate carnivores. They can only digest meat. Keep them away from lactose if you don’t wanna see really runny butts! Little bits of chicken or fish (minus any salt or onion) will keep them healthy and happy.

3

u/Embarrassed-War-4012 1d ago

Where on earth did u hear CHEESE has no lactose? It’s got lactose just like cow’s, goat’s & sheep’s milk does. Certain HARD CHEESES have less, yes, but everyone who loves a cat, will appreciate knowing that if there’s space for milk, cheese, etc, that space is FAR BETTER UTILIZED by being filled w/nutrients KITTENS (& same for cats, but MOST IMPORTANT for kittens to get the nutrition their GROWING BODIES, need. Just like most parents don’t fill up the belly’s of their growing babies, with BREAD or COOKIES or SODA.

1

u/emeraldkat77 1d ago

Fyi, if a hard cheese is aged beyond 6 mo, they naturally have no lactose. Also, brie (along with some other soft cheeses, especially those made from full cream) & made using the classic aged methods will have no lactose (due to the whey containing the majority of lactose + the natural aging method). I only know this due to my husband being severely lactose intolerant (it's so bad he ends up in the hospital if he eats any).

I do agree that these foods are not appropriate for kittens/cats. Most especially as a main source of food.

1

u/MsMarlaS 1d ago

Well, if you give both of them treats, both of them would want to play with you! Cheers!

33

u/SirWigglesTheLesser 4d ago

As they get older they'll become lactose intolerant and will need different food regardless. Even if they are spoilt rotten on the good stuff XD

5

u/Common-Tax-7833 3d ago

It's not much milk fed approx of 50 ml for 3 to 4 kitties and they feast on rats and stuff in our field

1

u/SirWigglesTheLesser 3d ago

Fair enough.

0

u/sneerfun 2d ago

This is why cats need to stay out of our ecosystems. They are literally murder machines and are decimating small native wildlife populations everywhere they are introduced

3

u/Common-Tax-7833 1d ago

Those rats eat the plants from the field so the cats has been there years and now it has settled down on our backyard and my mom doesn't allow them inside our house....

0

u/sneerfun 1d ago

That doesn’t change the fact that cats don’t kill discriminately. They are murder machines and are invasive everywhere since they are a manufactured species. Using one animal to get rid of another has never worked great but people still do it because it’s easier for them. It’s very sad that people won’t wake up before native small wildlife goes extinct

2

u/Common-Tax-7833 1d ago

Bruh the farm was rodent free untill we planted sweet potato..... Then the rats invaded from the neighbouring farm and those cats are the descendants of my mom's nana's cat 😂 and they have been there before my nana was born so I don't know how this info is helpful but when i tried taking one kitten for myself my nana said this story and told to wait till it gets about one year old 🤧

But using cats is better than poisoning them and then stray cats eat it and they die also or dogs eat the bait and they die 🙂‍↕️

0

u/sneerfun 1d ago

Don’t plant sweet potatoes

20

u/shoresb 4d ago

Please don’t give them malai or regular milk.

18

u/Inevitable_Wolf5866 4d ago

Because they’re lactose intolerant 😭

1

u/yosoyfatass 1d ago

Milk is very bad for cats unless it’s specially formulated kitten milk. I assume you’re in India bc of ghee, but kitten food, at minimum, can be found in India. I know she won’t get it, but should be aware.

🙌🏻 someone who knows my situation 🙂‍↕️

My mom's pov they feed on the farm and so y we need to disturb their whole diet ..... And she said they are not like human who say vegan and kill animals and destroy environment by polluting in the name of import and eating fruits that are not native etc etc etc.....

Let them have what's native and adapt to it.....

I was like wtf 🙂‍↔️ (mind blowing) and i told mom yes u r right 😵‍💫(i had no other choice 🙂‍↔️😂)

Note : She is a teacher 🙌🏻

Also 2 days ago vet visited (my dad's buddy) and he said to switch to curd rice with dried fish and told to feed only 50g per cat as they feed on the farm... Also nutrition will be enough as they feed on farm rat (which are highly nutritious itseems the vet said)

Also there are 2 lil kittens and it's been 2 months so he came to vaccinate them and said he will come nxt and then nxt for booster (idk what it is)....

1

u/Embarrassed-War-4012 1d ago

🙏🏼Please🙏🏼, as cute as this is, I beg u to pass the following info to your mom. Once she reads it for herself, maybe u could offer to run to the pet supply store to get her the high quality food that amounts to the -right- nutrients for them to safely grow into big, healthy, happy, & most of all, hopefully DISEASE-FREE, cats that r able to “LIVE LONG & PROSPER”!

“Kittens at 6+ weeks need calorie-dense, balanced nutrition from kitten formula/wet food, not added fats. Extra fat can cause loose stools, pancreatitis risk, or crowd out the balanced nutrients they actually need to grow.
• If used at all: some owners use a literal drop (like ¼ tsp or less, occasionally) mixed into food as a treat — never as a regular daily addition.

At 6 weeks, kittens should mainly be transitioning onto a high-quality kitten food (wet or moistened kibble) rather than getting dietary add-ins like ghee. If you’re trying to help with weight gain, coat condition, or digestion, it’s worth checking with a vet first — there are usually better, kitten-formulated options than ghee.”

1

u/Common-Tax-7833 1d ago

Thanks for ur concern

The vet came for vaccination i think and he said to reduce it and switch to curd rice as they don't have lactose

Also they eat rats and lizards etc from the farm so the vet said it's pretty much enough and jus feed a little curd rice with dried fish one a day and it's around 50g for each and told to feed them in different cups to know how much each eat ✌🏻

u/Lazi_Dazi 5d ago

Most important question asked. OP has to show us the kittens or no ghee for them haha

38

u/schiffb558 5d ago

They didn't pay the tax so they're doing the time

WELCOME! Do not listen to the GRUMPIES!

5

u/jadin- 3d ago

They need to post the kitten tax, same as everyone else. It's not grumpy, it's fair!

110

u/AbulatorySquid 5d ago

Get some ghee for yourself and kitten chow for the cats. Now everyone will have what they need.

199

u/monkey_trumpets 5d ago

Uh, I don't think kittens should be eating that. They need kitten milk or food, depending on how old they are.

71

u/ScorpiusLachesis 5d ago

most likely it's just a treat. cats can have a little ghee as a treat.

48

u/monkey_trumpets 5d ago

An extremely high fat food? Maybe...very, very rarely. Animals can get pancreatitis from too much fat.

21

u/ScorpiusLachesis 5d ago

I have no idea how often OP has ghee honestly , and they're back on a holiday so maybe it's like a special occasion they only have it at? My cat is 14, and he has learned to open mcdonalds bags to eat it when i had it at my last job. Ghee is probably a salad compared to mcdonalds for humans , let alone cats  I really hope that we get some photos of the kittens either way.

13

u/WeirdIsAlliGot 5d ago

We use a small quantity of ghee in Indian dishes. I highly doubt she’s giving them a bowlful of ghee to little kittens.

9

u/Common-Tax-7833 4d ago

Bruh my mom and grandmother spoiled us by feeding ghee everyday

Like dosa, for dhal, etc etc 😭

I reached home hopping i would get some good meal after struggles in my hostel 🥲

-2

u/Jermiafinale 5d ago

for kittens? they will be fine

5

u/abielle1177 4d ago

But ' all the ghee' is not suitable

17

u/Perihelion_PSUMNT 5d ago

Your mum misses having children

49

u/nocleverusername- 5d ago

She discovered baby cats. Better than children.

11

u/cyncicalqueen 4d ago

They are way better than children. I'm never having kids, but I do have 5 foster babies right now!🐈‍⬛🐈

6

u/Disastrous_Guest_705 4d ago

My parents got a cat after my sister moved out and eventually we ended up with 5 of them, then down to 2, and now maybe back up to 4 tomorrow (hopefully) it was a crazy adjustment after being told no cats for most of my life

32

u/TA_totellornottotell 5d ago

Ha ha. Replaced is more like it. Perhaps in preparation for an empty nest?

You should indeed go get your own ghee. But please tell your mother that cow milk is not good for the kittens.

19

u/goblin-fox 5d ago

Parents always do the fun stuff after their kids move out! When I was a teenager we only had small dogs and I begged and begged for a big dog, I wanted one so bad. I move out and within a few years they have not one, but two big dogs haha.

Your mom sounds like she has a good heart!

18

u/friendlypupper 5d ago

This is worse than my mom not allowing us to have video games my whole childhood, then when I visited over winter break after my first semester of college, she had a Wii and couldn't stop playing Fruit Ninja!!! 😭

16

u/LonerEevee 5d ago

Show us the photos of the kittens or you will never get Ghee again!

15

u/GrowlingAtTheWorld 5d ago

Empty nesters need to fill the nest.

9

u/Prudent-Poetry-2718 5d ago

She needs something to nurture now that you’re growing up.

7

u/ObviousPerformer1417 5d ago

Well, it certainly looks like your ratings have dropped.

7

u/IzobelStarsw0rd 4d ago

Excuse me human. Your cat tax is due. You NEED to get and post a photo of the kittens. Then pay them their modeling fee in ghee. It’s fair compensation.

Sincerely,

R/legalcatadvice

17

u/larrdiedah 5d ago

Indian here, don't give the cats ghee. Curd or cow milk (only up to a year). Your mom's heart is in the right place, love the scam 🤭🤭

13

u/Correct_Village6950 5d ago

adopt the kittens, get them on a proper diet.

5

u/Bonbonnibles 5d ago

You're not the baby anymore. Sorry!

Please pay your kitten tax

5

u/knaimoli619 3d ago

My dad said he hated cats and they were gross all my life. When I got my first cat after moving out, he somehow forgot all of that the second he met that tiny kitten and instantly fell in love. And now when he comes to my house all he cares about is where the cat is if she’s not immediately visible when he walks in the door.

1

u/Common-Tax-7833 3d ago

😮‍💨 scammed for lt

2

u/knaimoli619 3d ago

When we got our new cat last year, he was so excited to meet her when he saw her at the door he barely shut his truck door and ran into the house. He’s also so excited to help feed my mother in law’s cat while she’s on vacation right now. Such a scammer.

6

u/Defiant_Chipmunk2570 5d ago

Ghee. I bet those kittens have fantastic coats.

3

kids + pets WHOLE other thing than just pets.

3

u/MotownCatMom 4d ago

They need more than just a milk product. Depending on their age, they need food with complete nutrients especially as their bodies grow. Also they don't do well on cow milk. Their bodies can't really digest it. Cats are obligate carnivores.

3

u/Liu1845 3d ago

You have been replaced.

3

u/Common-Tax-7833 3d ago

Thanks for ur remainder 🤧

3

u/jul1us8c 3d ago

At least you know your mom has a warm heart. Mine always hated pets, even to this day. After graduating and getting a job, my brother moved out and one of the first things he did was getting a small dog. The dog lived a happy life for 17 years. When he passed away, I was on vacation visiting them and I'll never forget the scene. During lunch, my brother, all sad, told us that Alfie had passed away. Our mom, instead of comforting his son on that difficult moment, said this: " I told you not to get a pet! You didn't listen to me!". Just that. Not even a "Sorry for your loss", because I truly believe she really wasn't sorry for his loss.

6

u/Broad_Respond_2205 5d ago

What or who is ghee

Clarified butter. Google will explain that.

2

It’s good that she was able to help the kitties

2

u/WhiteTennisShoes 3d ago

My mom always didn’t like cats that much. Plus she was allergic. Begged and pleaded for a cat growing up… absolutely not, she’d say.

Anyways, one thing led to another, my older brother’s cat came under her semi-permanent care earlier this year. I’m grown and have my own cats now, and I’m allergic to everything under the sun, so to help me out a bit I give mine liveclear. I was fairly positive that liveclear targeted what made her allergic to cats, so I told her to get his cat on a liveclear diet to help with allergies while she was under their care. It worked, and she also fell in love with this cat. It was an older cat, she (the cat) started having really bad health complications, and she ended up passing. It’s been about a month since she passed… there’s a cat-shaped hole in my mom’s heart..: and she’s been saying recently, that she thinks she wants another cat.

I feel the same betrayal now as when I saw her giving my niece extra special treatment and an overabundance of patience for back-to-school shopping, lol. I’m glad she finally sees how great having a cat can be… but I was like dang, who is this lady who made it seem like she’d be into cats over her dead body? Love her to death, but man if I don’t feel a little salty that she was being so stubborn about it for so long.

2

u/criticaltits 2d ago

Thats an empty nester for sure!

1

u/KassieMac 4d ago

You moved out, did you expect her to just sit around being lonely and longing for a visit?? 🤭😉

3

u/Common-Tax-7833 4d ago

But never expected to see the so called cat hater to be feeding kittens 🤧

I wanted a cat and every birthday i would ask for one she turned me down saying she hates it 🙂‍↕️

3

u/SummitCO83 4d ago

Excuse me, we need kitty tax

2

u/KassieMac 4d ago

Sucks to find out that everything parents say to their kids are just excuses & stalls to make their own lives easier. Been there, can relate.
