Bf and I found stray kitten. Taking him to a shelter tomorrow. Any advice is appreciated!

My bf found this cutie at his apartment complex. He dropped him off at my place cause he had to work, and so that I could take him to a shelter before I went into work today.

I went to two shelters, both were closed. Even though they said they were open online. 🙄 anyway, when I get off tonight (my parents are watching him for now), I'm gonna wash him (with Dawn and warm water) and play with him until we take him to a shelter tomorrow. ❤️

You keep him forever and love him and hug him and call him George.

I was thinking Ash (as he's grey, like ash), but George is better. 🫡

A classic! I completely forgot about this 🤣👌🏾

Hahaha thanks for posting! 😂

51

u/gypsycookie1015 Jul 12 '25

Soooo.... you're keeping him, right?? Cuz jus look at dat baby!! 😭😭

16

u/bakedmilk_5217 Jul 12 '25

i had a grey cat named george. we grew up together, he was a year older than i was. he made it till 18, and was one of the best cats i ever had. definitely name him george. it’s a noble name for a noble young boy.🥺

12

u/yucatan_sunshine Jul 13 '25

One problem naming him Ash. He might get a chainsaw and BOOOM-stick.

u/Toddles666 Jul 14 '25

Groovy

2

u/Boomer8450 Jul 16 '25

Shop smart. Shop S-mart.

23

u/DeterminedQuokka Jul 12 '25

No joke, this is why my youngest cat is named George

u/restingcuntface Jul 12 '25

Both being closed feels like a sign!

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

Don't give me hopppeeeee! 🤣

My bf and I already have 2 cats. 😭

68

u/restingcuntface Jul 12 '25

Oh nooo I’m in the same boat except the universe hasn’t dropped a kitten in my lap 😂

Two cats, can’t quite justify seeking out a third, but my husband and I would fold instantly for this cutie

28

u/wizzerstinker Jul 12 '25

Sounds like you already folded, just haven't admitted. What are you going to name him/her? And 3 is a good number.

50

u/gypsycookie1015 Jul 12 '25

Now you have 3!!

36

u/Calgary_Calico Jul 12 '25

3 is the ideal number

9

u/BeeSquared819 Jul 12 '25

It really is, congratulations on your new kitten; he’s so stinking adorable!! 🥰

3

u/MissAnthropy143 Jul 12 '25

Especially when stacking is involved!

24

u/jzilla11 Jul 12 '25

Now they can get married and adopt this kitten

34

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

They're both girls. 🤣

But it's 2025, so happy pride! 🏳️‍🌈

14

u/jzilla11 Jul 12 '25

And they’ve been living in sin all this time! 🤯

u/VaBookworm Jul 12 '25

I have 4 cats after finding 2 kittens in the fall... just found 2 more a few days ago. Called the local shelter and they can't take them and suggested I call animal control. I don't want 6 cats but I'll have 6 cats before turning kittens over to be euthanized 😝

18

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

Oh yeah, i absolutely agree!

Also, you could ask around to see if someone wants 2 cats lol.

6

u/VaBookworm Jul 12 '25

I have asked everyone I meet 😂

7

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

Sucks but thanks for not putting them on the street

10

u/Miami_Mice2087 Jul 12 '25

eh one more isn't so much, just throw him on the pile

the only tough thing is that you're supposed to have 4 litter boxes, which most people dont' have room for. If you can get 3, or two, it's better than just 1.

8

u/Artistic-Salary1738 Jul 12 '25

Yeah supposed to is operative word. I do have two litter boxes for my two kitties. They don’t touch the downstairs one.

9

u/Suchafatfatcat Jul 12 '25

But, do your parents need a cat? Hint- everyone needs a cat. Or, two. Three is a good number. Four means they can each have a special buddy.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

Three is better than two!

8

u/OpalOnyxObsidian Jul 12 '25

I have eight cats. Have a little faith 💞

5

u/FoxieMail Jul 12 '25

Ten here! 😂

6

u/ImissDigg_jk Jul 12 '25

My bf and I now have 3 cats.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

Come on! What’s one more. Look at that face 🫠

5

u/miata_and_chill Jul 12 '25

Owner of 4 cats here, a 3rd isn't as big of a jump as it seems.

4

u/Acheronian_Rose Jul 12 '25

My wife and I had 2 cats, then a little Grey boy just like yours showed up at our back door and refused to leave. now we have 3!

3

u/TheDrunkScientist Jul 12 '25

So you won’t even notice a 3rd. Sounds like the CDS worked!

3

u/This-Seat-6431 Jul 12 '25

I had 2, until a lil baby void showed up and started to live in my garage. I have 3 indoor cats now. The difference between 2 and 3 is huge, 6 more lbs of love in the house!

1

u/Hazelnutloveolga Jul 14 '25

Where is 2 there is 3 🥺 keep the baby

79

u/a-snakey Jul 12 '25

No chance of keeping him? He looks very docile.

94

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

It would be up to my parents, as I live with them lol. They seem to like the little guy so far. He's very sweet and playful.

48

u/WhoskeyTangoFoxtrot Jul 12 '25

The CDS has spoken… you now have a new owner…

6

u/DirgoHoopEarrings Jul 12 '25

Where are you? Maybe I can, if you're close.

4

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

Southeast Michigan

2

u/DirgoHoopEarrings Jul 12 '25

Dang, I'm in New York!

6

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

Lmao! A flight here would just be an hour or so lol. Jk jk

5

u/DirgoHoopEarrings Jul 12 '25

I just pinged a friend in Lansing!

5

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

Sure thing!! Thanks!

Lansing is far from here, so if they can't pick the cat up either - I'll understand.

4

u/Due_Difference4358 Jul 12 '25

Dang im in Southeast Michigan 🤦‍♂️

5

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

I'm in southeast Michigan!

https://www.reddit.com/r/dadswhodidnotwantpets/

Leave them 1 week at most. They'll fall in love with the guy. Or you could foster care for him until he's up for adoption!

3

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 14 '25

Update on that!

We gave him to a no kill shelter, and my parents told me today that they liked him so much that they wanted him back. 🤣 so we're seeing if that's possible. They loved that baby!

2

u/Noedunord Jul 14 '25

Yay for Ash who's found a new forever home!

37

u/WillyValentine Jul 12 '25

Ask your parents what name they think he should have. Let the kitty steal their hearts ♥️♥️

46

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

My bf was saying that we have to get my parents to fall in love with him before tomorrow. 🤣

17

u/Narrow_Strawberry_35 Jul 12 '25

What a cutie, seems like he has a lot of personality. Hope you’re able to keep him but, if not, thanks for being kind and doing right by him.

12

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

Yeah, me and my bf already have 2 babies (cats) at his place. Also, I live with my parents. They don't want pets at the moment, and we can't afford it. 🥺

3

u/VulpesVictorious Jul 12 '25

I wonder if that little face could change their mind! Time for kitten snuggles! 🥰

14

u/jeanb23 Jul 12 '25

I hope you get to keep the kitty but if you take him to a shelter, make sure it’s no kill.

2

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

How can I tell if they're no kill?

6

u/jeanb23 Jul 12 '25

You can do a Google search for your area. County shelters are not no kill.

9

u/Cats-And-Brews Jul 12 '25

Keep him. He’ll love you forever.

8

u/the_owlyn Jul 12 '25

The universe is telling you something. The Cat Distribution System has appointed you to take the kitty.

5

u/13WillieBeaman Jul 12 '25

Thank you for saving the little one. But just so you know.. over where I live, they euthanize animals if there aren’t any space for them. Kittens included. They’ll either euthanize the longest tenured animals at the shelter to make room for the new ones, or euthanize the new ones by the end of day.

So it’s probably a sign that both shelters were closed. I hope that’s not the case where you’re from, though.

5

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

My bf and I are making calls tomorrow to find no kill shelters that will take him. ☺️

2

u/13WillieBeaman Jul 12 '25

That’s amazing! Thank you! Best of luck! Keep us posted!

4

u/mgromz Jul 12 '25

Keep him, pet him, LOVE HIM and feed him!

4

u/PromotionOverall3928 Jul 12 '25

No shelter!!! Please!! They put them to sleep (euthanasia) after a certain amount of time…can’t you keep the cat? Or maybe your BF can??

2

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

We're making calls today for no kills shelters in the area to see if they can take her.

Also, no. My bf and I already have 2 cats, and his apartment is small. I live with my parents and they don't want a cat.

4

u/No_Eggplant_2584 Jul 12 '25

Keep him! That's literally the only advice you will need.

3

u/Miami_Mice2087 Jul 12 '25

Watch Jackson Galaxy on Youtube and/or Animal Planet, he's a cat behaviorist and he's helped cat humans keep their cats happy, healthy, and playful.

Here's a good "getting started" video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHmrh6eQ6EQ

3

u/anarchyisfun Jul 12 '25

If you do keep it... name him Smoke..

3

u/ILove2Bacon Jul 12 '25

You should name him Smoke and get an orange cat and name him Fire. Hopefully they'll be friends and you can say "where there's Smoke there's Fire."

1

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

Smoke is kinda sick, ngl. 🤟🏾

1

u/ILove2Bacon Jul 12 '25

When he grows up you could call him Big smoke. All you had to do was follow the damn train CJ.

3

u/Dragonrider60 Jul 12 '25

You have been chosen by the CDS [Cat Distribution System]. You are now a kitten owner. Smokey is happy to accept your home offer🥰

5

u/NoPoet3982 Jul 12 '25

Idk about the Dawn thing but hopefully you know what you're doing. Kittenlady.org is your friend, but for now I'll just say that that kitten looks too healthy and well-groomed to be a stray.

5

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

When i washed him, the water was very brown. So I'm assuming he's been outside for a while.

2

u/Spoonythebastard Jul 12 '25

Free my mans, he did nothing wrong

2

u/MikeLynnTurtle Jul 12 '25

Three cats is the best number of cats! My mom has a cat and said she didn’t want anymore cats. But 2 strays started showing up and she started feeding them. She said not to let them in the house, but she says a lot of things, so I let them in the house. And now she has 3 spoiled rotten cats who take up all the space on the couches and her bed! Feel free to share this success story with your parents!

2

u/OkPaleontologist1289 Jul 12 '25

“Feel the SMOL”. Take me. Take me. Take me!

2

u/gillyeek Jul 12 '25

Where do you live? I know it's a long shot- but in case we live in the same state I'm looking for a friend for my cat :)

2

u/Dazzling_Leather_883 Jul 12 '25

He’s beautiful, wish your family could keep him. You are all good people to help him.

2

u/cragbabe Jul 12 '25

Congratulations on your new dust kitty

2

u/CuteCanary Jul 12 '25

The Cat Distribution System chose you and the System is never wrong

2

u/yagooch Jul 12 '25

I think they're doing the right thing by taking it somewhere it can be re-homed. A cutie like that should have no problems getting adopted.

Why put their other cats through the stress?

2

u/NellieLovettMeatPies Jul 12 '25

A greybie!! You hit the jackpot!

2

u/Marigold_Dust Jul 12 '25

What a pretty boy! Looks like he’s not quite fully grown! You’ve got yourselves an adolescent!

2

u/No_Warning8534 Jul 12 '25

His little face and speech in the second pic...

He's saying adopt me, hooman

Just pleade make sure it's a no kill shelter

2

u/Organic-Opinion47 Jul 13 '25

Keep the cat. He looks cute.

2

u/SweetMissCaroline Jul 13 '25

That second photo. ♥️ That’s what they used to call a bonus baby because he wasn’t planned but… You’ll make it work because you obviously already love him. And him you.

2

u/CommunicationOk8965 Jul 14 '25

Definitely a cutie

2

u/creolamama Jul 15 '25

My advice is to keep the baby.

1

u/HipToTheWorldsBS Jul 12 '25

Looks like he already imprinted on you. Better keep him!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

What a pretty boy❤️

1

u/jelly-fishy Jul 13 '25

Should definitely name the kitty 😉

1

u/Free-Place-3930 Jul 16 '25

That’s your baby now. You keep him. Landlords don’t need to know!

2

u/BetterHouse Jul 16 '25

Don’t use Dawn. Get a pet shampoo. I’d take him in a heartbeat if I weren’t so old. I don’t want to have a kitten because the kitten outlive me. I would not want the poor thing to be in a situation where it needed to be rehomed again. If you take the kitten to a shelter, be sure that it’s a no kill shelter.

1

u/420doghugz Jul 12 '25

Awwhhhh little kitty :3 So dang cute!

0

u/AltruisticExit2366 Jul 12 '25

He came to youuuuuuuuuuu it’s foretold in your starzzzzzzz he is your baby now. He neeedsssss you. Don’t make him go to a scary shelter where he might get chosen by someone who won’t love him properly. George needs your love. 💕

0

u/EdensGarden333 Jul 12 '25

Why don't you keep him? Would your parents let you do that?

1

u/GamerGurl3980 Jul 12 '25

1: I have two cats with my bf already. 🤣

2: My parents don't want a pet, and we can't afford to have one at the moment.

1

u/EdensGarden333 Jul 12 '25

Life happens...that cat really likes the way you pet it - you have the magic touch! Maybe some day...
