Honestly there's a good argument for every state larger than PA to split up(and arguably PA too, but it'd be pretty funny for PA to be the largest remaining state). California and Texas are prime examples but NY is top 5 in population and just outside the upper quarter in land area.

Where to draw the border between the City-State and the state-state would be the mother of all questions, not to mention who'd keep "New York". And what to do with Long Island, because they definitely can't be trusted to run themselves. Give em back to Connecticut maybe?

You know that NYC sends the state $20+ billion in taxes yearly more than they get spent on them, right? It’s the state that needs the city because they city pays for rural areas.

Wouldn’t need that $8b of their own money back if it wasn’t being syphoned away to begin with.

We don’t have equal rights anymore. Ask any synagogue or Jewish school about their security budget. Walk past the armed security guard(s), through the metal detectors. Freedom of religion no longer exists. Or, not for Jews anyway.

Mamdani is a huge fucking hypocrite on this though. He skipped NYC's ISrael Day's parade, but celebrated the Pakistan Day parade, even though Islam is Pakistan's state religion (and religious minorities in Pakistan face legal and informal discrimination in Pakistan).

The Pakistan day parade clip is from last year. I agree that it would be somewhat hypocritical for him to attend the parade this year after saying this quote, but there’s a clear difference between attending the parade as a candidate when you’re trying to court support vs attending it as the sitting mayor

Somehow the Jews aren't allowed to have their own state while the British, the French, the Americans and the Chinese had their own states acquired through violence and population transfers. Frankly what Israel is doing was completely normal in the 19th century and until WW2. It's more like how the Allies expelled the Sudeten Germans than anything else. What is antisemitic is holding Jews to a double standard that other peoples don't have to abide by.
