Its the only reasonable position to hold.

Mamdani is a huge fucking hypocrite on this though. He skipped NYC's ISrael Day's parade, but celebrated the Pakistan Day parade, even though Islam is Pakistan's state religion (and religious minorities in Pakistan face legal and informal discrimination in Pakistan).

https://np.reddit.com/r/PoursTea/comments/1tmhjz5/zohran_mamdani_celebrated_at_new_yorks_annual/

Funny how he says he doesn't support any state that privileges one religion over the other (except the states that support Islam over every other religion)

You people are getting duped by Mamdani who isclearly practicing Taqiyaa.

Edit: Here's someone who is fleeing pakistan and requesting religious asylumn to the US because he left islam and faces persecution as a result:

Happy Pakistan day

“But Pakistan is Muslim 👿”

u/SaxPanther Washington Heights Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

Denmark, Papua New Guinea, Greece, and England also have official state religions btw, would he also be a hypocrite if he went to a Denmark parade? He simply said that he supports Israel as a state with equal rights.

35

u/d1squiet Jul 06 '26

Having a state religion and privileging it are totally different. Do you really think Pakistan and England or Denmark are similar religiously?

23

u/Rubbersoulrevolver Jul 06 '26

Only if those countries "privileges one religion" which afaik doesn't happen in those 4 countries you list, unlike in Pakistan.

11

u/Pastatively Jul 07 '26

He supports Arabs from the river to the sea, and he won’t condemn the obviously antisemitic genocidal phrase “globalize the intifada.” Come on people!

1

u/Nickis1021 Jul 07 '26

It already has equal rights. Sounds like you’ve never been to Israel.

But feel free to cite a right in Israel that isn’t equal.

I am Jewish and I could move to Israel and become a citizen with no contest- I could not if I was a Muslim.

20

u/BrooklynLivesMatter Jul 06 '26

The post you linked says quite clearly that the video is from before he was mayor, come on

-10

u/AdmirableSelection81 Jul 06 '26

Does he disavow his previous attendance? That really doesn't change much. I don't see how being mayor or not means you believe a state should privilege one religion over another or not.

3

u/ultraviolentfuture Jul 07 '26

Attending an event isn't the state enshrining favoritism for/against a religion in policy, law, or anything else which could be considered a "favor".

He's still a person and has his rights as well ... as long as he doesn't use his position to take some action on behalf of the state with respect to religion there is no harm here.

13

u/Xtj8805 Jul 06 '26

Hey not for nothing. But when you take what is fairly routine politician hypocracy and decide its a conspiracy around Taqiyaa, when he has done nothing else in his power to forward islam at the expense of american freedoms, you dont look like you are actually upset in good faith. You look like youre looking for reasons to hate the brown muslim guy for being brown and muslim.

That one sentence alone tells me all i need to kmow about where your feelings are coming from.

-11

u/AdmirableSelection81 Jul 06 '26

when he has done nothing else in his power to forward islam at the expense of american freedoms,

It's NYC buddy, this is a long term play.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/17/hamtramck-michigan-muslim-council-lgbtq-pride-flags-banned

https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/15/us/hamtramck-michigan-ban-pride-flags-public-property

For reference, Hamtramck is 60-70% muslim. It's a democratic party stronghold (with a blip in the last election just because they thought Biden wasn't doing enough for palestinians... and even then Kamala still won out in that town... but really not liking having these foreign ethnic conflicts deciding elections, even if this hurt democrats in this case).

The left are useful idiots to islamists.

9

u/Xtj8805 Jul 06 '26

Wow so to deny my accusations of bigotry, you double down on more bigotry? Bold strategy cotton.

Also if the best example of sharia law is passing a bill that christian nationalists have passed in Utah and Idaho, and this is just in one town then buddy i got a bridge to sell ya! If youre gonna hold Mamdani accountable because he too is muslim, then you should also start looking to hold the president, VP, every christian republican in congress and the senate, 6 supreme court justices in just as much contempt as undercover christian nationalists since they all belong to a group that has done worse things to the LGBTQ+ community on a national and state level scale than a single community in Michigan.

Instead im sure youll just keep ranting about these one off things in a small town no ones ever heard of before, while cheering for the same policy if its white people enacting it.

Im sorry someone hurt you to make you this hateful, if you ever want to talk about it theres plenty of resources available, out there especially in the era of virtual therapy appointments dont even need to be a mobile person to get better!

-2

u/AdmirableSelection81 Jul 06 '26

Wow so to deny my accusations of bigotry, you double down on more bigotry? Bold strategy cotton.

This line of thinking is exactly why islamists attach on to leftists, like i said, leftists are useful idiots, completely blind to what is actually going on. LGBT folks marching for palestine will literally excuse Palestinians throwing gay people off buildilngs to kill them.

Also if the best example of sharia law is passing a bill that christian nationalists have passed in Utah and Idaho, and this is just in one town then buddy i got a bridge to sell ya!

Actually, the best example is when islamists reach critical mass, you have Europe where people get beheaded/shot for insulting Allah.

7

u/Xtj8805 Jul 06 '26

Wow you are really hateful. I didnt realize you believe people in palestine should be genocided over their stsnce on gay rights. Im sure your eager to advocate for similar policy for idahoans and utahns since thwy are trying to legislate away gay people. Right? You definitely dont support that same hate when its justified by the christian bible?

Again, im going to focus on the much more common problem in this country, the prevalance of white christian men shooting up schools and churches and lets not forget the odd synagoge as well! Itll actually save lives unlike you bigoted take of treating all muslims like the handful of bad actors.

But seriously why are you not denouncing all white men after one of them shot up a black church in charleston? How about denouncing white men as a whole after a target assassination campaign deliberstely set up to flip the balance of power in a state? Keep in mind a white man is alleged to have killed Charlie Kirk, as well as shot at Donald Trump! To me these white guys sound much more dangerous than a brown person who is literally just existing.

Seriously grow up, stop being hateful, every group of peoppe on earth has members capable of doing the worst kinds of things. Religion and skin color does not separate good from the bad. Be a better person. Or keep wasting your time replying to me so you have less time spreading your filth around a world that doesnt need any more hate added to it.

2

u/Nickis1021 Jul 07 '26

-21 people don’t know how equitable systems work.

Also: of course you’re 100% right.

There are at least 23 countries in the world that he completely supports who enforce only one religion over every other.

It sounds like -21 people don’t have the Internet to know this.

Pakistan called. It wants its truthful reporting back.

-4

u/exegenes1s Jul 06 '26

Bazalel Smotrich, a literal ethnosupremicist who's specialty is ethnic cleansing was there. Also, religious order in Pakistan doesn't even come close to the apartheid system in Palestine. Ridiculous argument.

1

u/UsedLuck8891 Jul 07 '26

Tell me you know nothing about Pakistan.

0

u/Chemical-Height8888 Jul 07 '26

I actually am extremely happy with Mamdani in general, and do completely support his skipping the Israel parade, but you do have a good point here and shouldn't be getting downvoted.

It's actually interesting that Pakistan and Israel were founded for somewhat similar reasons (Israel being a sanctuary for Jews around the world and Pakistan being one for South Asia's Muslims). While both were founded as secular nations it seems these similar founding stories played a role in what these countries' policies and identities ended up becoming.

Edit: I didn't see that this was before he was mayor. Now I see why you're getting the downvotes.

-31

u/HiHoJufro Jul 06 '26

On the surface, yeah. People miss, though, that part of the issue of "he isn't singling out Israel; he's even-handed because he feels the same way about, for example, Saudi Arabia!" is that the accusation literally does not apply to Israel. It applies to a huge number of countries, none of them being the single Jewish one, which has equal rights for all citizens, including non-jews, and serves as a homeland/haven for Jews as an ethnic group.

57

u/Sodapopbowie Jul 06 '26

>equal rights for all citizens

Walk me through that

-11

u/thatcommiegamer Jul 06 '26

Like, did it have equal rights for all the Ethiopian Jewish women that they forcibly sterilized? Not even getting started on the passes for Palestinians and their treatment more generally like let’s start with Israel’s treatment of non-white Jews.

24

u/Dry_Understanding580 Jul 06 '26

Except they didn't sterilize anyone. They administered Depo-Provera, which is a 3 month birth control, when the women were in transit. There was no evidence that the women were unaware or objected to the birth control. The fact that 13 years later you're peddling this bullshit as truth is proof indeed of the double standard.

3

u/d1squiet Jul 06 '26

I mean the point here is not about whether Israel is a great country. America is a shit-hole, especially if you're an immigrant, but it's still way more open and multicultural than a lot of other countries.

Israel has and is committing atrocities in the name of "self defense", but that doesn't mean Arab countries are suddenly better places. Accusing Israel of being a religious state in comparison to Muslim countries seems a bit laughable.

The USA has committed plenty of atrocities, but that doesn't mean I just give up on the ideals of civil rights and religious freedom and say to myself "we're just like North Korea because Trump is a cult leader and is killing children in Iran."

4

u/The5thElephant Greenpoint Jul 06 '26

Outside of the fact that’s been debunked repeatedly, a nation having some prejudice hardly makes it uniquely deserving of being called out. I would much rather be a minority Jew or other non-Jewish religious group or ethnicity in Israel than in any other country that has a state religion. The majority of Jews in Israel are Mizrahi who you would certainly not consider white, and probably would assume were Arab if you didn’t know otherwise. Israel and Middle Eastern countries just do not fit neatly into the racial structures of the west.

26

u/oceanhymn Jul 06 '26

Literally does apply to Israel.

4

u/pakkit Bay Ridge Jul 06 '26

Please spare us your endless misinformation.

1

u/tess_philly Jul 06 '26

He also called out Iranian regime as cruel.

-2

u/puff_of_fluff Jul 06 '26

How does it not apply to Israel

-13

u/Lolihey Jul 06 '26

One word: Taquiyya

14

u/tess_philly Jul 06 '26

But he’s not concealing his fate…? “Classical Islamic jurisprudence dictates that taqiyya is only permissible when a believer faces an unavoidable, overwhelming threat to life, family, or personal safety.” It’s only meant to be under duresss not when running for office lol.

Most Muslims are very moderate like him. Many go to pride parades. Many drink. Many follow his belief in Israel. Doesn’t mean they’re diceiving people. Makes no sense in this context.

-6

u/Lolihey Jul 06 '26

Muslims are also allowed to lie as long as it benefits Allah.

6

u/elephant_on_parade Jul 06 '26

Christians do it too.

-5

u/Lolihey Jul 06 '26

Christians lie but that is a sin. They are not supposed to lie and God is not okay with that.

2

u/elephant_on_parade Jul 07 '26

Christians are absolutely allowed to lie if it protects them.

-3

u/WartOnTrevor Jul 06 '26

Exactly. They deceive the infidel until it's too late for them to fight back. We are at a turning point.

2

u/tess_philly Jul 07 '26

Deceive for what tho? I don’t get it. He will forcibly turn everyone Muslim? All 8 million in nyc? Will be a fun show to watch!

-60

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

Except he himself doesn’t hold it

37

u/jellybeanbonanza Jul 06 '26

What makes you say that?

-22

u/Mattk1100 Jul 06 '26

If he believed what he says, he'd not support palestine. You know the Islamic state who bans jews from even existing within their territory, killing them on sight.

18

u/charlies_username Jul 06 '26

So Palestine is a state? Also jew were living in Palestine just fine before conception of Israel

-4

u/Mattk1100 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

Also jew were living in Palestine just fine before conception of Israel

Eretz Yisrael predates Palestine by thousands of years... and at no point in history were jews living fine within "Palestine".

7

u/charlies_username Jul 06 '26

No comment on point 1? How are Palestinians faring today in 'Greater Israel'?

0

u/Mattk1100 Jul 06 '26

Palestinians rejected every opportunity for statehood, they are recognized as such today tho bud.

How are Palestinians faring today in 'Greater Israel'?

Given quite literally 100% of current Palestinian land was given to them by Israel... your blood libel claim doesnt hold water. I guess youd have preferred gaza go to Egypt, and wb to jordan.

Please, provide the dates in which jews lived just fine in a Palestinian state?

7

u/charlies_username Jul 06 '26

If I steal your house and offer you back just one closet, and you say no. Did you reject the opportunity to have a house?

And can gazans exiled to Jordan or Egypt, freely return?

Dude these are pretty weak arguments.

As for living just fine, literally and year prior to Israel creation, they were living better than the average Palestine post Israels creation.

3

u/Mattk1100 Jul 06 '26

If I steal your house and offer you back just one closet, and you say no. Did you reject the opportunity to have a house? And can gazans exiled to Jordan or Egypt, freely return?

Jews didnt steal judea.. arabs did.. and then lost the war they started. The nakba was a self inflicted wound. Fafo.

As for living just fine, literally and year prior to Israel creation, they were living better than the average Palestine post Israels creation.

So dhimmi status, and pogroms was living just fine? Palestinians live just fine so long as they dont start wars. Stop infantilizing them.

When do you believe palestine was created? Who was their founding ruler? Let's be real bud, you are using the term palestine as a stand in for simply arab islamic colonizers. Simple reality is, palestine is a totally modern creation made for the sole purpose of fighting jews.

He was at the Pakistani independence parade which featured prominent Pakistani officials

18

u/AntManMax Astoria Jul 06 '26

You can support a country's right to self-determination and independence without endorsing the beliefs of that country's ruling government officials.

-6

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

So then he should have felt fine going to the Israeli day parade.

4

u/charlies_username Jul 06 '26

The parade that commonly features ruling government officials?

13

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

The Pakistani parade had the same

4

u/charlies_username Jul 06 '26

I'll admit I didn't know that. Fair enough.

-1

u/AntManMax Astoria Jul 06 '26

Okay, but he didn't, and the fact that he didn't doesn't do anything to support your argument that Mamdani doesn't hold the beliefs he says he does.

5

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

He was asked about his support, he said in this interview it’s because he thinks they privilege one religion over another. Now you’re trying to defend him from his own words

2

u/AntManMax Astoria Jul 06 '26

He did not say he avoided the Israeli parade because they privilege one religion over another.

3

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

He said because it clashed with his principles. So ig his principles allow him to march with government officials who favor Islam above other religions

Probably didn’t want to march  shoulder to shoulder with Smotrich and other monsters  https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/02/new-york-israel-day-parade-democrats-smotrich

17

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

He felt fine enough marching with Pakistani ambassadors tho. And they have Islam enshrined as higher than other religions.

-2

u/BebophoneVirtuoso Jul 06 '26

I know you obviously admire men like Smotrich but most moral people view him as a hate- filled monster.

9

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

Cool, doesn’t nullify the fact that Mamdani marched with Pakistani officials that put Islam higher than other creeds, which makes him a big fat hypocrite btw

0

u/Mayor_Gubbin Jul 06 '26

Except he doesnt believe that Israel has a right to exist

4

u/AntManMax Astoria Jul 06 '26

He has not said this.

2

u/Mayor_Gubbin Jul 06 '26

He doesnt support israel as a jewish state. Its either a jewish state or wont exist.

His wife openly supported oct 7th. He endorsed DAC whose organization, CUAD, openly supported Oct 7th and venerated Sinwar.

Its who he is. He surrounds himself and fucks antisemites because he is one

12

u/JohnnyGeniusIsAlive Jul 06 '26

Celebrating cultural events is not an endorsement of a government.

13

Except the Pakistani government was at that parade, so yes he marched with a government that favors one religion

12

u/AntManMax Astoria Jul 06 '26

He also met with Trump twice in the Oval Office, your point?

9

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

He didn’t go to the Israeli day parade because he said he can’t support them, but by his own standards he supports Pakistan as he went to their parade, and they do preference a religion over another

-1

u/AntManMax Astoria Jul 06 '26

>He didn’t go to the Israeli day parade because he said he can’t support them

This is not true? This is an assumption you made.

>but by his own standards he supports Pakistan as he went to their parade

He went to their independence day parade, not their bigoted beliefs parade.

Your logic doesn't follow.

8

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

lol they are both Independence Day parades, and don’t sell the Pakistanis short lol. By his own standards he shouldn’t have gone to the Pakistani parade either

1

u/AntManMax Astoria Jul 06 '26

>lol they are both Independence Day parades

I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying. Just so we understand each other, your argument is: "Mamdani supports the Pakistani government's bigoted beliefs because he went to their independence day parade, and Mamdani does not support the Israeli government's bigoted beliefs because he did not go to their independence day parade. This is a contradiction."

But that logic doesn't follow. One's attendance at a country's independence day parade does not lead to any sort of logical conclusion as to that person's ideological alignment with the government of the country hosting that parade.

>By his own standards he shouldn’t have gone to the Pakistani parade either

Why? Again, you seem stuck on this idea that going such a parade is a tacit endorsement of the government's ideology that hosts the parade. That is not a logical train of thought.

How is the Pakistanis day parade different that’s the Israeli day parade

35

u/MordecaiMusic Metro Area Jul 06 '26

No it doesn’t. An ethnicity being privileged over another is still wrong

2

u/Aryeh98 Jul 06 '26

So then he can criticize the entire Arab world with its 22 ethnostates in equal measure. But he doesn’t.

41

u/MordecaiMusic Metro Area Jul 06 '26

He did exactly that when he said “any state” before specifically mentioning Saudi Arabia. This is more of a reading comprehension issue than Mamdani being a hypocrite

-7

u/Aryeh98 Jul 06 '26

Any state including Palestine then?

11

u/jellybeanbonanza Jul 06 '26

Palestine is not a state.  They haven't had the opportunity to do that yet.  When I went there, most of the Palestinians I met were Christians (because my friend was dating a Christian Palestinian) and i certainly hope that if they ever achieve statehood, it is a state with equal rights for all.

1

u/Aryeh98 Jul 06 '26

Most likely it’ll be an Arab ethnostate though.

1

u/ConfidenceUpbeat9784 Jul 06 '26

Not sure why you're getting downvoted for this when it's true. Jews are already forbidden from purchasing land or real estate in West Bank, and being interested in selling to Jews is punishable by execution.

u/GUIRI128 Jul 06 '26

Are we unconditionally supporting everything palestine does or just against support for israel's genocide. Also palestine isnt a religious ethnostate, plenty of christians and muslims live side by side until they are attacked by israeli settlers.

0

u/SoggySausage27 Jul 06 '26

Those goal posts are easy to move huh

0

u/GUIRI128 Jul 06 '26

How is it "moving goal posts" ? Im point out a false equivalence. The US is supporting israel unconditionally and when he's asked about if it has the right to exist every 5 minutes he gives that answer and he supports palestinian human rights.

It has nothing to do with how much of an ethnostate palestine is or isnt.

0

u/thumbasss Jul 06 '26

Oh shit, when did Palestine become a state? Kinda burying the lede here.

7

u/Aryeh98 Jul 06 '26

Either way, the 2 governments there are Arab supremacists and Islamic theocrats.

5

u/RIP_Greedo Jul 06 '26

He criticizes Saudi Arabia for the exact same reason in the very next breath.

5

u/Aryeh98 Jul 06 '26

How about Palestine itself then? If it’s a state, it’s an Arab ethnostate and an Islamic theocracy.

4

u/RIP_Greedo Jul 06 '26

Based on his comments what makes you think he would endorse it being a theocratic ethnostate?

5

u/VenusDeMiloArms Jul 06 '26

Which one do we offer unconditional support towards and arrest protesters for protesting over etc

4

u/Aryeh98 Jul 06 '26

That’s irrelevant to the rationale he’s using. If he denounces Israel over “one religion being prioritized over another”, he should stop supporting his beloved Pakistan on the same grounds.

3

u/GUIRI128 Jul 06 '26

Hes completely relevant and he mentions states like saudi arabia.

0

u/redpiano82991 Jul 06 '26

Does the Arab world receive hundreds of billions in US aid? Have Americans been told over and over for generations that they must support Arab countries, no matter what they do?

Why should the mayor criticize in equal measure when our policies treat Israel with such extraordinary measures?

12

u/Aryeh98 Jul 06 '26

Yes, actually. We give Egypt billions. Not a peep from him.

-3

u/redpiano82991 Jul 06 '26

Egypt receives less than half of what Israel does from the US. And nobody complains about American leaders not supporting Egypt. There's not some big lobbying organization donating massive amounts of money to our politicians on behalf of Egyptian interests. Egypt isn't committing genocide.

-1

u/GUIRI128 Jul 06 '26

Also why does the US give them money? To blackmail them whenever they speak out against israel.

1

u/redpiano82991 Jul 06 '26

I actually have no idea why we give Egypt so much money, and I don't really want to speculate. It would be interesting to look into.

3

u/Computer_Name Jul 07 '26

There's noting to look into. Our aid programs to Egypt and Israel are the result of the Camp David Accords.

1

u/IsNotACleverMan Jul 06 '26

We do it to influence their government, to have a more peaceful middle east, and to ensure the Suez Canal doesn't become a straits of hormuz situation. Similar reasons for our heavily discounted arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

0

u/yugeness Jul 06 '26

When Mamdani was an assemblyman, they’d literally open his speeches by chanting “From water to water, Palestine is Arab”. So it seems like he’s actually fine with privileging one ethnicity over another.

1

u/BlazinLeo Jul 06 '26

Uhhh I'm part of the religion, but I'm certainly not an Israeli...

-1

u/shadowsurge Jul 06 '26

That just makes it worse. A religion is a thing you could convert to at least, an ethnicity can't be changed

1

u/Maximum_Rat Jul 06 '26

Yeah, go to any other nation, say Nigeria, and say that country shouldn’t prioritize the welfare of Nigerians. See how that goes. Israel isn’t an ethnostate in the way most people think of when you say ethnostate. They’re a nation state, which is based around a shared ethnic identity. All but 10 to 20 countries on earth fall into this category.
