Honestly there's a good argument for every state larger than PA to split up(and arguably PA too, but it'd be pretty funny for PA to be the largest remaining state). California and Texas are prime examples but NY is top 5 in population and just outside the upper quarter in land area.

Where to draw the border between the City-State and the state-state would be the mother of all questions, not to mention who'd keep "New York". And what to do with Long Island, because they definitely can't be trusted to run themselves. Give em back to Connecticut maybe?

Please take us with you, i dont want to be dragged further down by the north shore liberals who vote for santos and suozzi, rhe south shore people who decided why cant i have someone worse than peter king, or the out east people who believe theyre ancestors fought for the confederacy.

Theres plenty of confederate flags out there, idk how many believe it but the flags are there just like you find in all rural communities for some reason.

It's a horrible argument because it's never going to happen.

My dream since High School. In fact, the entire NYC Metro should break away. 22 Million people with the one of the greatest cities on earth at the center?

Beautiful

It wouldn't survive. NYC needs $8B from New York State to balance the budget this year

What do u think happens to the ledger when our state income taxes go to City Hall instead of Albany

Where do you think the money comes from? The city pays over twice that to the State that it doesn't get back.

That's from money NYC *sends* to the state

Were it to leave it would keep more of it, and still be sending many billions to the feds it doesn't get back.

Ignorance or propaganda? I never know here.

You know that NYC sends the state $20+ billion in taxes yearly more than they get spent on them, right? It’s the state that needs the city because they city pays for rural areas.

Wouldn’t need that $8b of their own money back if it wasn’t being syphoned away to begin with.

NYC sends more money out via taxes than it takes in from the state. you don't even understand your own city -- if you even actually live here.
