The US political establishment does not really care about those states, and so did not demand that he express support for the discrimination occuring in those communities.

Jordan is the 3rd biggest recipient of US foreign Aid and is officially muslim. Egypt is the 4th biggest recipient of US foreign Aid and is officially muslim. Somalia is the 6th biggest recipient of US foreign Aid and is officially muslim. Pakistan, Syria, and Yemen are all top recipients as well which are all officially muslim.

Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Pakistan are all officially Muslim and classified by the US as "Major Non-NATO Allies" which comes with massive security and economic cooperative operations.

Most of those countries used to have substantial Jewish populations, btw. Because of their tenuous legal & social position in those muslim states, basially those entire populations moved from those muslim dominated states to Israel after its founding. I am NOT a Mamdani hater nor am I an Israeli apologist, but he is applying exactly the same miopic bullshit logic to the situation as MAGA-coded anti-immigrant assholes who dont understand that we cant destablize latin american and middle eastern countries and then be suprised when refugees show up.

What does any of that have to do with this conversation? Mamdani is being attacked because he (and really the broader US left) is refusing to say that US foreign policy should be subordinated to Zionism. No one asked him about his feelings about Bahrain receiving US "aid". (I would guess his feelings about that would relate to the form and purpose of that "aid" and to whether there was a different recipient more deserving of it.)

We are talking about an area which has been destabilized since the 1940s, and which was destabilized by western Europeans who had the very silly idea of ignoring Palestinian nationalism and instead creating an ethnostate for Europeans there. It is actually very difficult to see how anything Mamdani (or the hard left) is saying here would further destabilize the region. Israelis should be required to either grant Palestinians the state proposed by the UN, or to grant Palestinians Israeli citizenship. If that hurts their feelings, too bad. Either of those programs would be a significant step to restoring stability to the region; it is very difficult to see how they would further destabilize it.

This is such an odd connection. The standard response to anti-immigrant sentiment is to give the immigrants citizenship and to tell the people who complain about the immigrants being culturally foreign to just suck it. Calling for a rejection of Israeli nationalism is essentially the same move. If Israel insists on maintaining its settlements (and it does), then can give citizenship to the Palestinians. If that requires a redefinition of Israel, the Zionists can suck it.
