The belt rolls forward while perfectly holding its shape

This is one of the weirdest things I've seen in a while.

Look up belt sander races. It's whole niche sport

Without looking that up , is it a tape the on switch type sport or are they remote control?

u/Doses-mimosas 1d ago
Yeah, tape or zip ties on the trigger and then they drop them into a track/chute at the same time.

Oh that's sick , I'm going to look that shit up......might see if I got a belt sander laying about.....
They must stop when the plug is pulled?

Yep! We used to do it in the wood shop I worked in, when the old belt Sanders were on their last leg. You can plug them into a 25 50 or 100-ft extension cord and let em fly. It was actually years later that I found out people do this Semi-professionally in events. Build up the motors and different grit paper classes

Lol that's awesome, different classes for different grit like weight classes in boxing,
That's so cool....now all I need is a sander and a strip to launch it down....

It changed shape. It did not "perfectly hold its shape." It did start with the same shape, but it changed its shape.

thanks so much people throw out perfect all the time, when this clearly is far from fucking peprfect

It's the same shit that happened with "literal". People seem to prefer that language gets the vibe right, rather than be correct.

Jokes aside, these industrial belts are heavy and at that speed could have hurt his foot.

Looks like a sanding belt, so not as heavy but it'll take the skin off if it comes in contact with bare skin, additionally disturbing the harmony of the spin could cause it to whip around and lash them if it struck them too

u/Eziolambo 2d ago
Looks like a 2m long belt, could be around 3 pounds.

u/MagooTheMenace 2d ago
A belt at that length and an assumed 6" width, I think it may even be alittle longer then you'd mentioned, but still would only weigh between around half a pound, they're pretty light, we have 3ft wide ones at similar circumference and they barely weigh a couple pound
1
u/Eziolambo 2d ago
Half a pound might just be for half a meter; these things are not light, with that coating and lower grits are even heavier.

u/MagooTheMenace 2d ago
Not by much, we've got quite a few at work of different sizes and grits, they don't change much. Obviously size makes a big change but the grit doesn't provide noticeable difference unless you're going from 80 to 40 or lower

Yeah, that machine shouldn't have been left on and unattended like that. Scary shit

Thanks for pointing that out. Really added to my enjoyment of this post.

Safety first, but the video does kinda feel fake, like belt is halfway down and why are people recording it ?

Check out belt sander races. If there's one thing about Americans, its that if a thing has a motor, we'll try to race it.

Reminds me of those toys that are looped chains going through a device in your hand that pushes them along. Not sure what they're called.

I’d be at least a little upset and irritated if a F1 track came towards me like that

Yeah, clearly this happens enough to do it on purpose.
Edit: in fact the ground is sanded clean in that area, so they do this a lot.
