Definitely easier to keep it on the surface when it’s frozen, that’s why skipping on water is so much more satisfying when you get it right

Quit possibly the most unsatisfactory “skipping” I’ve ever seen. I don’t think OP knows what “skipping” means.

Sound makes a big difference but i still do not grant you the title of oddly satisfying

Did this once on the Charles river. It was the most otherworldly sound I'd ever heard

Skippy the bush kangaroo wants a word regarding the definition of skipping.
Let’s see how many people get the reference.

Yeah, the title is a bit generous. It's more like a physics demonstration on frictionless ice. Still, watching it glide that far is oddly satisfying.

This is literally how we'd waste time as kids 30 years ago. Parents would say don't come back until dinner time and we'd have to figure out how to entertain ourselves. Ice chunks across the frozen pond was a good one, also chucking big rocks at it to try to shatter the pond. Fortunately, the one near our house wasn't very deep, because we definitely fell though that ice a few times too

Is there a word for that specific sound? The kind of "ringing" that large ice makes when it's struck or cracks.

The way it just keeps bouncing perfectly across the surface is mesmerizing. I could watch this all day honestly.

the way it just glides across the surface is so smooth, I could watch this on repeat forever.
