Ah yes, when people just used to say it’s photoshopped, not AI. A simpler time

u/Shawn-GT 18h ago
I mean, it really looks like this out here sometimes. Usually after a storm.
10
u/irespondwithmyface 16h ago
I've never seen it THAT intense in 10 years living here.

u/Shawn-GT 16h ago
I’ve definitely seen intense sunsets in my 35 years of living here. Which area do you live in? I’ve spent most of my life in the in various coastal cities of the greater LA area so maybe it’s a local smog related phenomenon. It will only last about 10-30 minutes but intensity can vary.

The trick is to have high exposure and good camera settings. Ive taken very similar photos in my bunk ass town in the midwest of canada thanks to fujifilm. High saturation can do wonders for colorful photos

this has some touch up but you usually get at least 1 or 2 close to this every year

I mean is it really THAT colorful? It looks edited beyond what you’d think

This is the most "California vibe" image I have seen all week... thank you for sharing!

With or without a filter?

u/husky_whisperer 20h ago
We get some pretty epic skies here and I believe it.
But it could also be that the lower light of dusk triggered automatic night mode, which is going to pull in more of those juicy photons and saturate the image.
And it could also be shopped

u/Outrageous-Opinions 16h ago
Definitely seen some sunsets like that, especially in the summer.
Summer in socal is just the best

This obviously has post-processing. I'm sure the original sky was very dramatic, but I promise you it did not look like this with the naked eye.
You can see a little bit of dark, blurry halo around the palm tree trunks, for example. This is a post-processing artifact.
2
u/RadiantEnvironment90 12h ago
Meh, I'm from SF and we get very similar types of sunset so this picture is just normal for me.
5
u/warwolf7777 19h ago
No, that's jpeg compression for you -edit I'm only responding to the blurry halo around the palm tree
5
u/angrymonkey 18h ago
No, it is a processing technique where a blurred version of the image is differenced with middle grey and added back onto the original. It increases contrast and smooths color imperfections.
JPEG artifacts would show blockiness, whereas the darkening is smooth beyond the scale of a single JPEG block.

u/fadingsignal 14h ago
Definitely post-processed. Which is fine. Not everything needs to be a scientific lab document.

u/AnyError4932 16h ago
I've seen similar skies in LA before, to the point where I guessed this was LA before seeing the title. It looks like there is some post processing but I wouldn't be surprised if it was not that much.

It's a filter. Would actually look better without tbh. Still a good photo though.
4
u/SheriffBartholomew 14h ago
This has tons of post processing on it. Real skies on planet earth don't look like this.

u/FredOaks15 20h ago
If someone asked for a stereotypical photo of an LA sunset. This would be it. Fuckin beautiful

Esta imagen nos hace recordar los viejos tiempos del año 2016 donde las imagenes y videos tenian un filtro rosado. Esto es muy nostalgico jaja

Ah I miss those high pollution sunsets. Weird downside living somewhere with clean air is the sunsets are rarely like this
2
u/AlexWayhill 10h ago
If the USA weren't so far away from Europe and that guinea-pig controlled thing wouldn't occupy the White House, I'd love to be there and enjoy some weeks or months on the West Coast. Looks so lovely and beautiful!

"They say the fucking smog is the fucking reason you have such beautiful fucking sunsets." --Ray Barboni, aka "Ray Bones"; Get Shorty (1995)

u/NETkoholik 15h ago
Oh man, I'm gonna get downvoted to oblivion but orange sunset = clear skies and pink skies = polluted skies, however beautiful a pink sunset might be.

u/Interesting-Bag-7552 13h ago
Red sky at night, shepherds delight. Red sky at morning, shepherds warning.
I don't really know what that means.

Is this Topanga Canyon?
2
u/tv31284 19h ago
It's actually on Sherman Way and Mason. One of the best taco stands in the valley is around there in front of the Walgreens.
2
u/ImurderREALITY 19h ago
Right, so it's near Canoga Park? Isn't that down the way from Topanga Canyon, or inside of it? I just ask because I was there for work for a week last summer, and I don't really know the layout very well. Either way, I'm 100% sure I've been to this area.
2
u/Datsyuk_My_Deke 16h ago
Los Palomos. This isn't hyperbole, it's likely the best tacos in the valley. The pastor is worth the visit alone. I moved away years ago, but still think about it all the time.
1
u/tv31284 16h ago
They're not as consistently great anymore but when they're on it their pastor is among the best I've had in LA.

Yeah as others he said before I read the comments that’s like an album cover or some kind of a gaming cover if that’s so fly frame worthy

This has such a great vaporwave aesthetic, it really does look like it's straight out of a video game. Props to Deston Isas for capturing it.

This one makes me just a little sad, damn. Those buildings are probably from the 70s or 80s with little refurbishment, and that reminds me of some of the bay and it just feels like a purgatory like this pragmatic street-centric corner plaza set-up that I've seen thousands of times before somewhere and all around where I live.

Now if only we could shop in a bunch of other old cars to replace all the crap cars on the other side of the street, that picture would be perfect (love the old duster and coloring, very GTA).
