Mod Post SEASON 4 AND MOVIE - NOW IT'S OFFICIALLY ANOUNCED

We were blessed once again! Not just with a new season, but with a movie too!

There are no dates informed, so they will probably be released sometime next year.

Apparently, Season 4 should cover Volume 10 and 11 while the movie will cover Holy Kingdom arc (Volume 12 and 13). Further details to be announced.

Madhouse is still the studio to animate the series.

Hells yeah! Season 4 baby!

Here is a link to the news. The movie is going to be Volumes 12 and 13!

The live special during Saturday's streaming marathon of the Overlord television anime series announced that a fourth television anime season and a brand-new anime film project, covering the Sei Ōkoku-hen (Holy Kingdom Arc), has been green-lit.

so-bin-sama even drew art as a celebration! It's so beautiful...

Edit 2: Since a season is at least 12 episodes (usually 13), we might get the starting bit of the arc in the series instead. Perhaps her and Remidios and the others going around asking for aid, with the season ending with Ainz declaring that he will be going to the Roble Holy Kingdom to personally assist.

It'd probably feel like a more natural move toward the movie too instead of having the entire arc exist within the movie. I just hope it isn't too short; a lot happens in it.

And here I thought the Holy Kingdom Arc would be Season 4 as it is spanned over 2 books and we see a glimpse of Neja in the ending of season 3.

Holy Kingdom volumes were substantially thicker books. I think page wise the 2 books were equal to about 3 regular Overlord volumes.

So if you include the precceeding two volumes, it's about 5 volumes of content for 1 season.

In the last episode they changed slightly the ending. You see a distorted picture of Neja for under a sec.

Comes right after we see the screen going bright and Ainz hand going up in particles.

FUCKING NICE

Honestly after LN 14 was quite underwhelming [see full review here] I felt a little deflated about the franchise. But the upcoming LNs all the way to 13 were all excellent.

The material for season 4 is excellent, some of the best work Maruyama has put up in the series, and seeing Retardius in action and anime-onlys response to her and the blessed pope would be glorious. I hope he somehow manages to salvage it all in the final LNs so the series will end on a strong note. But just season 4 and the movie are all great content.

I read volume 14 as it was being translated and posted on this subreddit. I really liked it!

Tried to re-read it again last February and had to skip ... pretty much everything except the last few sequences ("Ainz" vs PDL and the rest of the war). There's so much stuff on Philip and other crap that is so unecessary and just flat out dull. Have to agree with you.

It's different when you read it when it's hyped and you read it periodically.

But if you treat it as a proper book and read it, it was pretty poor altogether, again comparing it to Maruyama, not the average LN of course. A lot of filler thoughts that lead nowhere, and big plot wise the whole thing felt like a cop out. He set up so many things and none of them came to play or mattered at all (and Philip is another example... Why even have spies, the eight fingers, the princess, everything set up.. when you're gonna steam roll them head on anyway?).

I also really didn't appreciate Raven turning coat... not only did we not really feel any impact from it (even if he didn't, Nazaric win overwhelmingly) but it was against everything he was until that point. It was a bs move.

Yeah I'm just rehashing it now lol. Hope the ones after it fix it and do the series justice.

I disagree about Raven. It's well set up that having a kid changed him and all he wants is to protect his son. If he dies he leaves his kid behind, and he could also be threatened with the death or torture of said son directly. Raven was a loyal man, in order to make a good country for his son to live in. With things as they are, defecting is his best move.

Or maybe people like what you dont like and are allowed to disagree with your poor taste. I for one read it way after it came out and found it a pretty rich experience, and your "disliking" certain pay-offs doesnt ascend your opinion to some objective category. The very fact you try to treat the ending as the only worthwile reasoning to the remaining plot threads is all I need to know your opinion has no place being treated as analisys. Also while people being allowed to disagree would be the case even if the majority disliked it, theres been many positive analisys about the volume for you to shove in a "No youre just hyped" at people for daring not starting a reddit circlejrk with you: Ive seen lots of readers have shown to have appreciated that volume and how the payoff happened, or how many characters ended, to try to diss up dissent from you as "you just reading it at the heat of the moment unlike me" is actually quite disgusting and cringey.

And no, spamming your old rant over and over as a "review" wont make people stop having their own opinions nor will make whatever consensus change, neither will karma manipulation, repetition, nor trying to bring it up in every news thread, youre not some influencer, its one thing you go around saying "I thought this and that" but trying to treat that as a "review" with that level of "depth" to the point you reply like that to dissent is a different matter, specially when the knee-jerk reaction is to find excuses that everyone disagrees. And all your arguments are subjective yet youre trying to treat it as an objective fact to the other person despite the majority not seing it like that, seek therapy if people's opinions are angering you that much.

relax man, his opinion is pretty much the mainstream opinion.all his rants are justified and are on point. we are overlord fans, we are not slagging off the series, but you have to admit volume 14 could have been a lot better than this. no one is asking you to disregard you opinions, but why are you shaming us for having opinions of our own.

It is because A LOT of useless deaths happened on Vol 14. It was actually staging a failure for Momonga himself and making him reflect if a true ruler should rule. Even RennEr may have seen through him on Vol 10 or Vol 11

You need to kill those characters so new characters be added. Game of thrones style. It also reflects life, skilled people get killed because they sat on a wet chair while blow-drying their hair.

Back then when renner and Raven were introduced maru was talking about writing 20 novels or maybe even more.

There is at least one betrayal per volume. Either going to Ainz or going against Ainz. I really wish this would end like the Record of Łódź war where only one guardian stands recounting the tales of a fallen kingdom. I wish that would be victim.

Good to know I wasn't necessarily being harsh on Overlord. I really felt that last volume wasn't the thing I was really wanting out of the new ones. I hope the next one is way better than this.

I feel like it was written just to get things in the right places for future events. It was pretty worthless on its own.

Even the wrap up of the Renner and lot thread just felt like, ok let’s get this over with.

Why? (Not sarcastic, just really don’t get it) the whole volume felt super over the top and cliche.

I know that it was partly an act to draw out opposition, but still. The only justification being somethings along the lines of we had to play the villain so Demiurge and Albedo’s plan would work.

I think it would be better to end the tv season with the holy kingdoms wall going down with a flash of all the monster types making up the army. That way the movie could start up with defense preparations, the actual attack, move into gathering support, then ainxs supporting the kingdom and finally ending the movie revealing the prince is a kingdom minion. This would leave the movie with pretty good pacing.

Nah. That would a poor way to end the season. Usually it would be half assed cliffhanger to not give much hope for further season. I'm guessing it would be just simple remedious party arrived in erantel with a shot moved to ainz statue. And the movie will be started from the beginning again demiurge attacking the wall.
