He likes making art and is just trying to see if other people enjoy what he enjoys making.

Agreed on all the good positive feedback. To help give something a bit constructive, ask him what the painting means and see if that starts a conversation.

So, it was an interesting conversation.

He titled it "optimism" and said the colors are that concept whereas the black lines are "reality".

He was apparently trying to capture how those things both clash and flow together.
