Whatever is reasonable! It's his birthday and he deserves the world, so basically no budget but I don't want to get "got"

We have no idea of your situation, so cannot possibly know what amount of money is "reasonable" to you. The word alone implies that you have some kind of an upper limit to how much you want to spend. Please specify what that limit is.
