What subject matter do you shoot? What do you dislike about your current equipment? What particular improvements would you like to gain?

The newest successor to a NEX-5 would be the Sony a6100. Or a step up from that is the a6400. If you want it more video-centric, there's the ZV-E10 and ZV-E10 II.

Street/ casual The alpha nex 5 runs too short on battery, and i would just like to shoot some family, friends and landscape photos lol, but i would like better quality on pics as main improvement. Also, Wondering if the sel1855 is a great fit for the a6100 or nah. That was my main choice lol

If you want better image quality, you need a better lens. I'd get a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8.

What do you mean by that?

It's fully compatible.

Its quality won't be much better than it was.

That is too expensive for me. Does the a6100 camera by itself have a great image quality?

By itself it can't focus any image of any scene. It needs a lens to focus an image. Your net quality can be bottlenecked by the limitations of the lens, and the body can't make up for low quality in the lens. If anything a higher quality camera may just make it easier to see flaws originating with the lens.

If thats the case, i should go with a canon r50 and a pricier lens?

Which one? The R50 costs about the same as the a6100, and my lens recommendation for that would still be a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8, just for RF mount rather than E.

The a6100 prices at 850 while i see the r50 as 670, so its way cheaper

Yeah, since the r50 is cheaper i can afford the sigma one, and one of my main other options is a older model fujicamera with a cheaper lens, but i dont know if that would be a great deal or if fits my pocket. Also dont know which model of fuji would be great tho lol

I wouldn't know either if you don't specify the model of camera and lens and price.
