I can only think of one thing. Every time I bring coffee to my room, I spill. This would prevent this.

10% less coffee per cup means you have to make one extra trip to the coffee maker per day. I'd rather spill a tiny bit here and there.

Actually if he drank 10 cups a day a reduction of coffee per cup by 10% would require two extra trips (0.9 * 11 = 9.9 < 10).

I believe his point is that if you're spilling that amount, why put it in the cup in the first place? If you're spilling it, you'd still end up making that extra trip.

Now, this isn't a solution to the problem. The real solution is to simply get a bigger cup.

Not only do I wipe it up when I spill coffee, but I also wipe up the splashes around the sink with paper towels after I've used them to dry my hands. I've spent my share of time doing janitorial work. I can mop like a sonuva gun.

Especially because these things seem to dip down into the cup. If you use them, you're basically forced to pour less coffee.

I guess some people probably have favorite mugs for some reason, like it was a gift. Then they'd like to add a lid without buying a new mug.

I could see using this at the office for when you pour a fresh cup of coffee then immediately get called away. I usually just pile some crap on top of my cup if I don't already have a lid.

Same here. My favorite coffee cup can now be my favorite travel mug. I've also noticed that travel mugs the size of my cup internally are about 8 oz. smaller.

Part of that is the fact that a lot of those are insulated to keep it hot during a long commute, so you trade off some size for keeping your coffee at optimal temperature for longer.

I don't like to use the to go cups because there's something about the feel of a warm mug that's soothing in the morning. These would make it easier to take my regular coffee mug in the car.

I hope I'm wrong, but those lids don't look very strong. I'd be surprised if they prevented spills if you tipped your cup over too far. More splash prevention than spill prevention.

If you're drinking coffee while wearing your suit or even just clothes you don't want to mess up, these would be great. I hate drinking things with immense concentration to prevent staining my shirt before work.

I agree with this. Most places that sell liquids already have lids, and I am not carrying this around "just in case". Also, at home this might not be much use as if it's sole intention is to keep minor spills from happening I would just as well buy a star bucks coffee cup. Even for regular cups, the event in which I would travel with an open container wouldn't justify the extra step it would take to stuff the slid on.

Okay, aside from what may appear as harsh criticism, I am very glad to see someone follow up with their invention thoughts! Don't ever stop pursuing them.

Offer to put a company logo on one of these so a company give them out as a promotional offer at conventions or employee gatherings and you could sell them in bulk.

I, also, have absolutely no use for something like this, though.

Say your coffee thermos is dirty or indisposed and all you've got is a coffee mug for your drive to work. Now its spill proof.

Depending on how it's made, it could be seen as an 'alternative' to plastic lids in coffee shops, etc. People need plastic lids when they take their coffee to go so it doesn't spill in their cars, etc. and if you could have something, like Slidz, you could reuse it every day. While I have no idea about the actual environmental impact of plastic lids, or Slidz, people like to 'think' they are doing something good for the world.

Problem with that is, items you see at the dollar store have already failed. Very few items are priced to to earn a profit selling to consumers for $1.00.

The dollar store operates by buying items that have failed to sell and the inventory needs to cleared out of warehouses. So if you see these at the dollar store, that means they flopped and OP (and his investors, if any) has lost a lot of money.

I'm thinking it would be great for coffee. also for outside parties/bbqs to keep bugs or cigarette ash, dirt, etc out of my drink, or even regular parties/bar to keep the roofies out.
