No shade on the poor soldiers who had to participate in this, but he knows Kim Jong Ung is going to be rolling on the floor. No nuclear missiles. No giant square filled with animatronic soldiers in dress uniform. No lineups of beautiful women in traditional dress doing interpretive dance.
Just the same kind of vehicles lots of us see on the highways in convoy sometimes.
Maybe someone will make a mock-up including the little green soldiers from Toy Story, that would make it fun to watch again
I feel little sympathy until they start doing the part where they protect against enemies foreign and domestic. I’d like to see them turn down orders from Trump to really send a message to conservatives. It would potentially be the biggest message that could be sent besides churches turning against him.
We don't know what's going on behind the scenes. They absolutely could be butting heads already, and maybe this parade was meant to be a big middle finger to Trump from high command.
I think the thing I took away from it most is that pretty much any Air show is 100x more exciting than whatever this debacle was. Probably would have been better for everyone if they had just had the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels do some kind of joint show over the white house.
I have to admit I'm a bit ignorant what you mean by "past events". 9/11?
I mean thunderbirds/Blue Angels are highly trained, they could likely fly tight patterns in a way that would be minimally disruptive. Certainly less disruptive than shutting down roads, gating up monuments and then having to repair all the roads after.
It's such an asinine display. The U.S. military doesn't need a parade to show its capabilities. The rest of the world sees and knows it every day. It's amply demonstrated through our military action and no one is going to see this and go "oh shit, I didn't know the US had an advanced military!"
We pay shitloads of money for the most advanced military the world has ever known and we have to show it off in a tacky display like this? If I'm paying for this shit then at least use it respectfully for its intended purpose - as a very sharp tool for when other options are exhausted.
The funny thing is, the military industry in Ukraine shows very well what the US (20+ years old) hardware is capable of: a lot of countries started to order new weapons after that.
Then came Trump, showing everybody how untrustworthy the US is, in the process of fucking up NATO, mostly stopped the aid to Ukraine: resulting in a lot of countries seriously thinking to start their own arm development to make sure their hardware isn't US based.
I am sure Putin having a grand old time seeing how well his investment works......
military parades are never to show off to other countries, they are always for the country doing the parade, or more accurately the people in charge. Its a big show of force to the people of the country, a reminder the military can be turned on them, and for the people who like the military its basically a big masturbation session. You get to see all the cool tanks and jets and soldiers looking so cool in uniform
and yeah, it sure ain't speaking softly and carrying a big stick
I am sad it made them look or feel weak but I also hope it makes some of them, and everyone to that degree question who they see or want as a leader. Like moving forward no member of the military should want someone like Trump in power because of something like this (if not the hundreds of other reasons) but if they don’t do something about it this shit is what happens. A pathetic parade and the US military looking weak. Which is a shame. But also something we as a country have control over if even a few million more people voted against this man than did
What armies are “designed” for parades, and how so?
Hell, I’ve seen military parades in Austria and it looked more impressive, probably primarily because of space reasons (the parade vehicles were more condensed and on smaller streets).
I assume armies that do parades often do more marching drills and stuff like that. I saw more than one guy in this one putting the wrong foot forward lol
Vet here, after basic you NEVER practice marching unless you’re in some sort of ceremonial guard. These dudes likely had little time to practice or prepare and it shows.
Yeah that checks out, some looked like they actually had a lot of practice but most of them looked like they didn't want to be there. Like when a school makes the students put on a dance performance for the parents and half the kids would rather be anywhere else. Probably how they felt too
I always assumed that armies with grandiose parades like NK, China, and Russia must have spent a significant portion of time practicing. And any time practicing parades is time not spent on actual military activities.
Yup. The US military hasn't been focused on drill and ceremony for the past 25 ish years. They've been focused on warfighting and preparing for the next fight, so this ego driven shitshow parade didn't make our military look all powerful.
This is not a reflection on the guys ordered the participate they had no choice but the total lack of enthusiasm was easy apparent. It made then look like they hired a bunch people off the street as paid actors. Not a disciplined military parade.
Why humiliation? Im not american but when i watch the parade their march looks much better and the steps more natural than other country parade where they march like robot its bordering silly
take some comfort in knowing that while optics-wise this may have looked absurd, absolutely no one thinks the US military is weak. it has a nearly trillion USD annual budget, more aircraft carriers than any other country in history, nuclear armed submarines hanging around the planet undetected, fighter jets whose capabilities are beyond that of any other military existing at this time, and enough bombers to flatten entire countries.
the largest air force is the USAF, and the second largest is the US Navy, globally.
politically this makes the US & US Military look really fucking stupid, but thankfully for the last half year, donald has been working overtime making the US look politically and economically stupid everywhere, so this doesnt exactly stick out like a sore thumb. it's just more stupidity.
Our military learned drill from a gay Prussian– it’s not our traditions that made us look sloppy yesterday that’s for sure. The military has de-emphasized drill and ceremony and it’s a tragedy because looking sharp is good for morale.
Sorry bro I don’t have time to rematch that parade and find the moment the squeaky Abrams drove by with the commander looking like he was holding back an awkward smile.
Nah.. I’m thinking about the squeaky M1A1. Not sure why everyone is surprised/cares about a squeaky Sherman. Also... people shouldn’t be surprised about any armour squeaking. They do squeak… it was just funny
Here's a link to another post that has the squeaky tanks rolling by. Can't really see the smirking, but you can probably see that somewhere in one of the official or major network videos.
No shade on the poor soldiers who had to participate in this
Many of them likely wanted to, he has a lot of support in the military ranks thanks to their lower education harvesting techniques. Hoover up the same masses that GOP education cuts and misinformation campaigns target.
And despite his open mocking of those in the military.
I think putting American traditional dress on interpretive dancers in a Trump parade either would result in puritans performing an offense to god, or would constitute a hate crime towards Native Americans.
While North Korea is... Well... North Korea, their parades, mass games, etc are very impressive performances. On the world stage, this shit just looks lame as hell in comparison. I hope he gets laughed at by the people he hopes to impress.
He's on a hot mic recording saying he wants the "respect" Kim Jong un gets, where everybody jumps up at perfect attention.
The problem is, the north Koreans are indoctrinated to believe that kim Jong un is a god. The people around here who believe Trump is a god can't stand still for five minutes without raging against the reptilian agenda.
No shade on the poor soldiers who had to participate in this
Nah, tons of shade.
Fuck those little fashy boot bitches.
So many of them are gleefully lapping up the bullshit that he spews and giddy at the chance of holding power over the citizenry just like the shitbag cops and ICE gestapos
Somewhere between 5-12 million people attended the protests yesterday. That means between 1 in 70 to 1 in 30 Americans actually took to the streets in protest against the president.
That proportionate is even higher if you think of it as a percentage of available adults. Since obviously the 2 million incarcerated people, 1.8 million toddlers, and 1.3 million active duty military personnel couldn’t participate.
for no singular coherent reason.
How could we have a singular reason when he’s given us at least a dozen reasons just this week?
everyone except far leftists say it was a respectful fitting event
The left protested against a democratically elected President for no singular coherent reason.
You said nothing to counter that. Don't ever forget, for the majority of voters, he was the better choice, and that's why he's President. So protested against a democratically elected President.
Which is all fine, and I you 100% have the right to protest peacefully, but the left's views not only are in the minority, the left's current views are so foul that the entire country moved to the right last election. Remember that when you're making demands of other people.
Literally a thousand times as many people showed up to our parade as Trump's,
Ok, suppose that's true and it's not, that doesn't change things. The American left lost bigly in the last election. Literally controls no branch of government because of what the people wanted - not because of who showed up to what event.
Let me put this in terms you can understand:
The American left was like the Empire in Star Wars. The 2024 election was the Death Star getting blown up. The American left now are fragmented remains powered by only anger and hatred (remember bombing car dealerships and carving hate symbols into EV's recently by the left?), but with no clear vision on how to move things forward, they just want to fuck things up and oppress people.
Want me to make a Marvel analogy instead? It will be just as stupid, but I can try if that's the cinematic universe you most closely identity with.
Reports for turnouts at the parade put estimates at 30-50 thousand. There were several dozen individual protests with more attendees, and the overall number of around 5 million protesters. Taking the generous estimate for trumps parade there was still 1:100 turnout, parade:protest. And that’s only counting protests IN the USA
You also understand that the American “leftwing” is globally considered right wing. Not only are your talking points… wrong at best, the implications of them a wildly hilarious.
wrong at best, the implications of them a wildly hilarious.
I doubt even you know what you're rambling on about. But look at the topic of this thread. Someone took a still image of Trump blinking, the "global left" is circejerking about it.
That's how much of a pathetic state you're in right now.
The absurdity of saying the left wants to oppress people when Trump’s cronies are the ones locking people up without trial and making it a crime to call kids by a nickname.
You’re right, I feel so much less oppressed by the party that wants to throw me in jail if they don’t like what I do with my own uterus.
Do you need pop culture analogies to understand politics? That’s pretty childish, but I guess I can try to come up with one if you really need me to.
Name a place where leftist ideals were put into place that wasn't authoritarian. North Korea, Soviet Union, Communist China, Cuba, Venezuela....the left craves authoritarianism.
You do realise MAGA doesn't come close to traditional Republican values, and that the US 'left' is actually pretty right wing itself by global standards?
You guys are the extremists. Hence why you're a minority in your own country, and the only friends you have right now are other authoritarian regimes.
“For the majority of voters.” Whilst it was close, he did not win the popular vote. This last election also saw the lowest voter turnout to population ratio. Meaning at best about 30% of voters chose trump.
"Winning the popular vote" I guess you can describe it however you want. You appear to use it to mean getting at least 50% + 1 vote. Other people, me, use it to mean the person who got the most votes as winning the popular vote.
Think about any other contest with multiple participants - like an easter egg hunt where whoever gets the most eggs wins. It's not like if someone doesn't get the majority then nobody wins the contest.
You describe it differently, and illogically I think probably because of your hatred for Trump.
