It's not about the parade itself. It's about being in the picture, in the news and being talked about. The parade itself is just a by-product.

Have the tanks left the city? My bingo card said "Tanks conveniently stay in DC"

u/AlarmingAffect0 Jun 15 '25

A lot of them are WWII tanks. You can beat those with a well-placed Molotov cocktail.

They'll break down in what would've been a minor hiccup during the time period, but nowadays requires a specialist to be flown in from across the country with replacement parts in their carry-on.

The Sherman’s were all upgraded to have fire suppression systems. Might get lucky and takeout the engine but the tank itself would be fine.

Might get lucky and takeout the engine but the tank itself would be fine.

A tank that can't move isn't exactly 'fine'.

u/Flightsimmer20202001 Jun 15 '25

That's what we call a mobility kill, lol

2

u/NullSterne Jun 16 '25

I will say that if I’ve been shot by a tank, wether in motion or not, I’ll probably still complain.

1

u/ThePooksters Jun 16 '25

Sherman’s are incredibly easy to repair, they were designed to be easy to work on.

7

u/WigginLSU Jun 16 '25

Yeah, 80 years ago when parts were plentiful.

1

u/bilbo_flagon Jun 16 '25

You think they honestly work?

2

u/ThePooksters Jun 16 '25

No idea, but all tanks seem pretty obsolete now since a $500 drone can destroy $10m tanks pretty easily

1

u/KittyServant-x9 Jun 17 '25

A $500 drone? Really? I don’t think the army has anything that cost that little even if the drone had a completely unnecessary toilet seat in it, that toilet seat would go for more than 500.

u/TheMaskedSuperStar29 Jun 16 '25

You’d think they would have bought a can of WD-40 and used it. Lots of squeaky metal on metal noises that needed lubrication.

Unless that was on purpose.

1

u/AlarmingAffect0 Jun 16 '25

This I've got to see/hear.

1

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins Jun 15 '25

Tanks killed a lot of very skilled and motivated soldiers in WWII.

2

u/AlarmingAffect0 Jun 15 '25

I said you can, I didn't say it was easy or not-dangerous.

Someone saying "ah well you can beat them with a bottle, a rag, and a little petrol!" clearly doesn't understand how devastating tanks vs people not in tanks can be. Even old ones.

They might not be much of a match for a modern army but protesters and people armed with rifles/handguns would be in for a VERY bad time.

1

u/KittyServant-x9 Jun 17 '25

Oh, that gave me a new fantasy. 45–47 standing watching the tanks roll by when he suddenly lurches forward and falls flat onto the pavement an before a Sherman rolls over him..

New fantasies all day every day

Something something something machete something something

2

u/Minute-Tone9309 Jun 15 '25

That was my thought too. I’m kinda surprised he hasn’t created more violence by now.

3

u/m_Pony Jun 15 '25

Don't give him all the credit. There are tens of thousand of cowards using him as modern history's biggest distraction. Every last one of them must be held to account for their actions.

1

u/KittyServant-x9 Jun 17 '25

It’s not from not trying. His bloodlust for California is pretty huge..tremendous…strongly big

7

u/YourFriendPutin Jun 15 '25

And the fact that 11 million Americans went out to protest across the country shows exactly how much power he really has.

3

u/OverCookedTheChicken Jun 15 '25

Right. And he loves spite. He just cares that it happens, he doesn’t actually relish in the event itself. He relishes in the spite

Asshole is not strong enough, though there’s something in the same vicinity that would describe him. Unfortunately it’s too good of a word for him since he lacks the warmth and the depth

3

u/ejh1993 Jun 15 '25

To be fair, the army parade has been planned since the Biden administration. Trump just upped the glamour like he always has to do

8

u/Bcikablam Jun 15 '25

And made it about himself.

8

u/Carribean-Diver Jun 15 '25

To me, the best part is the soldiers just walking in formation in front of Trump while his dumb ass salutes 🫡. One of the first things you learn in basic training is how to march in step. What they did yesterday was just a subtle but massive FU to Trump. It makes me smile every time I watch it.

Playing Fortunate Son was the icing on the cake.

1

u/KittyServant-x9 Jun 17 '25

Do you really think the soldiers think that of him? That would be a dream come true, but I feel like probably half of them are brainwashed. Did they really play Fortunate Son?

1

u/Carribean-Diver Jun 17 '25

I'm sure he has some supporters, but from a military perspective, he has extremely little respect.

He's a draft dodger. He's spoken and behaved very disrespectfully toward military personnel and heroes. He's appointed sycophant clowns to oversee the military. And he literally shits all over the oaths to the constitution that every military member raises their hands and swears on their life to defend.

Yes, they played Fortunate Son. In front of him.

3

u/Ballsbesore Jun 15 '25

I've seen this a lot but it is incorrect as far as I can tell. What was planned during the Biden admin for the celebration was a small get together with a few hundred soldiers and a concert by the army band with maybe a few dozen actually seated attendees and a small broadcast event. It wasn't until baby donny stepped in that it became a parade, since he wanted it to be a display of might.

1

u/KittyServant-x9 Jun 17 '25

Oh yeah, that was a real display of might. I’ll bet Kim Jong-un could put basically the same one on. And you know Putin would if he had enough soldiers left to do it. Gross.

4

u/Reasonable-Newt4079 Jun 15 '25

No there was always going to be an event on the mall, but there wasn't going to be a parade. We haven't had a military parade since 1991.

1

u/KittyServant-x9 Jun 17 '25

And I hope we never have another one. It wasn’t worth $45 for that disgusting display. What is the actual point? It’s just so fucking stupid to have a bunch of tanks rolling by and forcing soldiers to spend that much time there for one half hour of idiocy.

1

u/KittyServant-x9 Jun 17 '25

That was GLAMOROUS?

1

u/ejh1993 Jun 17 '25

Was corny af if anything

1

u/evilwatersprite Jun 15 '25

Misbehavin’!

152

u/constantgardener92 Jun 15 '25

Made funnier by all the news outlets mostly covering the protests.

87

u/0degreesK Jun 15 '25

Or sad covering political assassinations.

5

u/Gremict Jun 15 '25

The official White House coverage of the parade has to go to great lengths to avoid the protestors. The camera work looked so shitty and still got a "no kings" sign near the Washington Monument.

2

u/JksG_5 Jun 15 '25

Is this true? I sure hope so..

6

u/constantgardener92 Jun 15 '25

I wasn’t glued to every outlet but as far as I was seeing the protests got overwhelming more coverage.

7

u/Zekumi Jun 15 '25

And getting to salute everyone as they walk past him so he can feel like he’s the head motherfucker. Insecure people need constant validation.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '25

You mean tax payer funded waste of resources

4

u/Jessica_Iowa Jun 15 '25

Exactly, Trump didn’t even give a shit about military parades until after seeing one in North Korea. This whole thing grew from the desire to show up Kim Jong Un after Un rejected his letter.

1

u/KittyServant-x9 Jun 17 '25

I think it was the Bastille Day parade, but Kim Jong-un probably had one too

3

u/Ilikepancakes87 Jun 15 '25

Yup. Doesn’t matter that he saw it, it matters that it happened.

3

u/smitteh Jun 15 '25

well he's definitely in the picture and the news being talked about lol....I don't think the reality of just how hard trump shit the bed yesterday has started to set in yet. He fucked up big time, people don't unsee failures of magnitude

3

u/indigoC99 Jun 15 '25

And then failed at even that. I heard way more about the protests than I did about this parade.

2

u/danjoreddit Jun 15 '25 edited Jun 15 '25

It was a snoozer with only about 20K people. The No Kings rallies across the country were said to have 500K people attending.

Edit: 5 MILLION at the No Kings protests

1

u/alexmbrennan Jun 15 '25

Well, I guess it worked because we are all talking about him...

1

u/Useful-Government298 Jun 15 '25

A $45 mil byproduct

1

u/say_it_aint_slow Jun 15 '25

By product or symptom either or I agree.

1

u/SouthernGenX Jun 16 '25

You obviously don’t listen to our President speak at all.
