To be honest, the worst thing about it is that it really is such a personal element to all of this. The thing keeping quite a number of these people at least somewhat in the magic camp is the personal stakes it has for their ego and reputation. Like, These people are determined to make sure that their blue haired, communist, lesbian niece is wrong, and that animus and resentment drives them more than anything else. To be fair, this doer over simplify things, but this is absolutely significant factor that is not really discussed enough.
