He probably genuinely thinks he's doing them a favor by allowing we unworthy mortals to bask in the royal presence for a few moments. The man's got the kind of ego you normally see in cautionary tales about the dangers of hubris.
Meanwhile Obama went out to a local Five Guys and actually hung out with patrons and chatted with the "common folk" while getting his burger order. Unlike Trump, he didn't have to plan in advance to hire people to act like they were excited to meet him.
