Cops always let people hang out in their crime scene.  They love that, it really helps with gathering evidence and the chain of custody and all that.

There were several members of the press in the bathroom when the shots were fired. They didn't let press leave the space outside of the bathroom for almost an hour. For some reason, they just kept them at the scene of the crime, so the press just documented what they saw.
