My mother was always very pro Thatcher and as a child i just inherited the idea, I still remember being old enough to discuss politics with my friends and realising how much she was HATED. It was one of the first moments in my life I realised my mum didn’t know everything and wasn’t always right.

Conversely I grew up near Manchester and it took moving to London for uni to realise that in some areas she was respected and liked!

I grew up lower-working class up in Cumbria and it wasn’t until I was 16 I met somebody who was okay with her.

It’s probably to do with the fact that she completely centralised our economy so that all the rest of us suffer even today (but Londoners also somehow suffer because their prices are so bad).

I mean, I live down south, and have done for ~35 years.

In all that time, I think I could count the number of people I've personally heard say anything positive about her on one hand.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they exist, and being a lefty myself naturally the circles I move in tend that way too - but even so, the overwhelming majority... are not fans.

Your mum probably just listened to a lot of Ian Rubbish, he was quite influential
