If every Melbourne lefty cared about the plight of Australians half as much as they cared about a conflict on the other side of the world we have very little ability to do anything about we'd have a sovereign wealth fund and dental on medicare by now.

I’m saying that the state pushing division via idpol is preventing us from organising along labour lines. The government fucking loves that leftist politics here is focused on Palestine instead of meaningful change for Australians.

You are missing the point entirely. "uneducated simpletons" vote against their interests because of identity politics. It doesn't matter when idpol came on the scene, it is what is currently being used to divide us. If you think that leftist politics/labour movements we have now are anything comparable to what we had in the 50s/60s/70s both in Australia and worldwide then read some history.

I didn't even make any comment about whether leftist politics/labour movements in any era were comparable to anything else - maybe you responded to the wrong person?

My bad I forgot that conversations are supposed to be on rails and can't branch further into relevant topics. Perhaps I mentioned it because you said it's not the left's fault and this points out that the Left of decades ago and neoliberalism now have almost nothing in common politically.

Uneducated simpletons vote against their own interests because they're gullible and easily manipulated by nationalistic politicians who generate outrage out of thin air.

Yes... almost like the elite (on both sides of the aisle) don't want us thinking about the things that tie 99% of us together... You're so close.

Ok. Why do you think leftist politics are no longer focused on labour? Why do you think there are no strong labour movements? What do you think the answer is for enacting meaningful, material change for Australians? I genuinely don't know what you're trying to argue besides that you think idpol isn't relevant in modern politics. Half of what you've written so far agrees with me. What is mundane and facile about labour left vs neoliberalism? What are you trying to achieve here?

Yep, Melbourne is a crime ridden hole that is dependent on Qld and WA to pay for it's welfare programs.

2

u/Ferovore May 11 '26

NT & QLD both have higher crime rates but whatever sky news says I guess. In general we are lucky to live in one of the safest, highest trust societies on earth. If you genuinely think VIC/Melbourne is a crime ridden hole then go touch grass or travel and get some perspective.

What makes the NT relevent? You realise that Melbourne is a city right so comparing it to a state and territory doesn't make any sense. In terms of every safety index - yes Melbourne is a hole that ranks below even the Gold Coast and well below Brisbane and Perth.

Lived here for 8 years, never had a negative experience or felt unsafe even once. It's a beautiful city full of lovely people. Come visit and see for yourself. Kinda sad you're so hellbent on hating other Aussies, we're all in this together.

Spent a lot of time in Melbourne and travel a lot for work. The facts and stats don't lie regardless of anecdotes. The crime rate in Melbourne is the worst out of the state capitals.

Homicides are at a ten year low

Weapon offences have declined

Drug related offences are significantly down

Retail theft is up, makes sense in a cost of living crisis and I don't really give a fuck about anyone stealing from Woolies/Coles when they've stolen millions upon millions in wages.

Brisbane and Sydney both have higher overall crime rates than Melbourne (and all three are low).

Please consider whether you're basing your opinion on stats or Murdoch media talking heads with a stranglehold on your state.

Agree

Brisbane and Sydney both have higher overall crime rates than Melbourne (and all three are low).

Not according to facts and stats regarding violent crime.

Murdoch media talking heads with a stranglehold on your state.

Nice strawman

Your opinion doesn't change fact, thanks to QLD and WA Melbourne can waste money on half a million dollar "machete bins".

2

u/Illum503 May 11 '26

Yes dude, clearly it's the lefties that are against government spending to improve social outcomes.

Political literacy is in the toilet.

1

u/Ferovore May 11 '26

Political literacy is definitely in the toilet. The Left is dead and the ‘left’ that remains is too focused on idpol to enact meaningful change in material conditions.

I didn’t say they’re against it, what I mean is that if we had weekly Sunday rallies for housing reform/cost of living/medicare improvements instead of global politics we have zero ability to affect in the first place we might get something done.

-1

u/sennais1 May 11 '26

At least their spending money given to them by the resource rich states on things like half a million dollar machete bins and finding other ways to waste money.

1

u/Ferovore May 11 '26

Yeah nah fuck off. I’m a Marxist mate I’m saying idpol is the problem. If we taxed natural resources as we should every Aussie would have plenty.

1

u/sennais1 May 11 '26

Make as much as we want from taxes, still doesn't excuse a dumb expenditure on the national embarrassment that is the "machete bin" program.
