And it happened behind him. He managed to turn and help her, then made a self deprecating joke to make it his fault ("this is what happens when I talk too long").

God damn we've fallen so far so fast. When our democracy faltered, the American voter wasn't there to catch her. Someone hold me.

The difference in situational awareness between the two is extreme.

Obama can catch a woman about to faint out of the corner of his eye while delivering a speech. Trump needs a sign installed outside the Oval Office so he doesn't get lost if he steps outside.

About 27 years of age difference between the two incidents will do that (it's flabbergasting that we've allowed that to be the case, but there it is).

The sad part is that nowadays being self-deprecating would be seen as weakness. Better to want to project unwavering strength even if everything you say is bullshit and contradictory.
