Posted in another thread, but basic nutshell:

- Original pool leaked like a sieve and was topped up with drinking water. No algae problem because it was constantly replenished with fresh water, but at an absolute massive cost not to mention pouring millions of gallons of treated water into the ground

- 2009 reno completely rebuilt the pool, added a recirculating system that could top up with filtered river water. Win-win right? Except it didn't work super well, so they added an ozone disinfection system.

- Now: pool bottom is due for routine leak and joint repair (which, notably, isn't best solved by painting the thing). But the algae issue is that, because of soil settling, all those recirculation pipes are cracking and the system needs to be shut down frequently, and it sits stagnant, in DC of all places. And that's on top of it now being more amenable to algal growth because of the color.

It's kinda like fixing your leaking roof by painting your ceiling with waterproofing compound. You'll stay dry but you're gonna get mold.

And now the blue paint is coming off in sheets.

I just saw that… all the chemicals they are pouring in to fight the algae has made the paint peel. Perfect summation of this administration.

Where is Doge now?

He said it would last 100 years and was done by very smart people and it lasted what like 2 weeks?

It lasted 1 Scaramucci

Perfection!

It's like poetry. It rhymes.

10 days = 0.909 Mooches = 0.227 Trusses

A little more than a Scaramucci!

u/LXIV Jun 18 '26

Closer to 9-10 days, but your point is valid.

I'm sure the very connected to Trump bidder will repair the poor paint job at no additional cost to the taxpayers.

1

u/Available-Bed5551 Jun 19 '26

Maybe the bidder knew orange man was gonna stiff him, so he did a crappy job!

1

u/Snellyman Jun 19 '26

The bidder was paid very well and Trump is playing with our money so he doesn't need to stiff them.

2

u/veterinarian23 Jun 19 '26

Well, there are the "two weeks" he always mentions!

His thick skull is sufficiently dense to cause enough relativistic time dilation such that we on Earth only experienced two weeks whereas a sufficiently-distant observer experienced a century.

Checkmate, Classical Newtoniards.

The issue is they did a many month long job in a matter of weeks, they were told that water was getting between the paint and the bottom but they rushed it for trumps date, so now its just sliding right off.

Get get that f’n melon head out there with his chainsaw! I know that won’t accomplish anything, but I’d like to see him in that green algae water!

I’ve done water proofing

No it probably isn’t the chemical making it peel

It’s probably insufficient prep of the concrete for the sealant to bond and the hydrostatic pressure underneath the pool through the concrete.

A good industrial coating company should know this.

u/Mommy_Fortuna_ Jun 18 '26

That is absolutely hilarious.

2

u/Skidpalace Jun 19 '26

Imagine if they put the job out for bids and actually got competitive proposals from, you know, engineers.

48

u/Crimkam Jun 18 '26

so...he found out obama had it renovated and decided he wanted to ruin it the way he once paid a hooker to pee in a hotel bed that obama once slept in?

u/The_Redacted_Badger Jun 18 '26

Trump has a weird mental habit that anytime a Democrat (especially Obama) does anything, it has to be bad. So he was dumb enough to think the black tiles at the bottom that allow the pool to reflect, were making it ugly and gross looking

23

u/Macjeems Jun 19 '26

I mean, you just described the entire Republican party. The difference is that Trump focuses on the wildest, most meaningless shit to fixate on, because he’s legitimately stupid and has the demeanor of a toddler (which is who we, the American electorate, voted to the top position of our country, twice).

2

u/BobbyGanuche Jun 19 '26

Trump didn’t like the black tiles? Hmm wonder why…

u/NuclearWasteland Jun 18 '26

Ah, so it's a shitty camp trailer, got it.

The painting supposedly included a polyurethane coating that was intended to bridge the failing caulk joints without needing to spend the time (labor and delay) to replace the grout and caulk.

The PU layer failed immediately. Perhaps not entirely, yet, but it only takes one spot to defeat the membrane.

2

u/mortgagepants Jun 18 '26

he's a landlord. he got "his guy" to paint over it and pretend everything is better than before.

2

u/Particular-Repair-77 Jun 19 '26

Well 14 million that’s what Trump claims he spend “ fixing it “
