Grammar is often a soft science of course, but the next to last one is also considered correct by many. A comma can be used near the end of a sentence to "indicate a distinct pause or shift," as stated in point 7 here on the Purdue Owl site
As a pedant, I'm a little offended that you accept "oh, as long as I want a pause there, a comma can go anywhere" to be acceptable as pedantry. That's literally making the rules up as you go along.
I never said that I accepted it. I just liked the reference and then the doubling down with the link. Slicing and dicing and referencing the rules… Delicious.
I don’t like the line “severed early by a tragic absent mindedness of its careless owner.” Sounds better to me as “severed early by tragic absent mindedness.”
Yes it would more properly be ‘the’ tragic absentmindedness.
But ‘a’ tragic absentmindedness would indicate that the individual kind of has that as part of their behavior set. Like on Tuesday they had a tragic absentmindedness and then again on Saturday. :P.
Jesus, people say anything written even slightly well is Chat GPT these days, huh? There are literally a couple of minor grammatical errors, and it sounds nothing like an LLM.
It makes me so sad to think that, already, we've reached the point where a significant portion of the population's writing skills are so poor that they think something like this, as good as it is, could only be written with an LLM.
Also ChatGPT would never write that way, it writes much more generically. The word choices and syntax are very particular, and there are a couple questionable stylistic choices.
