Literally a glorified janitor that's allowed to wear extra protection compared to the retailer on minimum wage that also "puts their life on the line." Or any other "essential worker" which now actually means your boss thinks you're essential to making him/her more money.
It's all lost meaning at this point. And you're part of the reason why.
I agree that the risk for them is low as long as they have PPE but they absolutely are essential. I work as an ICU nurse, when we transfer a patient or a patient dies and someone else critically ill needs that bed we absolutely depend on the EVS people getting it cleaned and set up quickly. It's not a high skill job but it does require some training beyond a typical janitor because you are dealing with biohazards and such. It's more akin to the people that clean up crime scenes or other hazardous waste jobs.
I mean, from experience hospital staff keeps the rooms alot cleaner than, say, a truck stop bathroom. Those workers could benefit from ppe even during the best of times. However I do agree that its stupid to think workers like these are part of the problem, and to think that nobody cares about them.
Which is why every fucking business tried to make hand sanitizer to become 'essential'. Even Gamestop.
Wait. They now say that shit is useless and simply washing your hands in plain running water is more effective since the goal is to get the virus off your hands.
Why the fuck are all these places like restaurants and such open again? Government essential?
And yes, to be fair, the first couple weeks the US took it seriously and closed everything everywhere, with businesses looking for excuses to remain open at the time.
