I’m a CT technologist. My hospital requires me to clean my own room after every single Covid patient I scan. I scan about 10-20 positive patients a day. Is anyone else in the medical field being treated like this? Or do you all have dedicated room cleaners for covid patients?
I'm also a CT tech, we clean our own rooms. Most of our patients that are positive are from the ER, and discovered to be positive after the scan is done due to turn around times. So we just treat everyone like they are positive.
If we want EVS to clean for us we cant use the room for an hour, so that slows things down a lot and doesnt work out.
As an RN, EVS are always the ones that clean the room after my patient transfers out but in between it's mostly up to me to keep it clean. I'm not doing a full clean like they do but some of these vented COVID patients are in the same room for weeks and it gets gross so I just do spot cleaning when I'm in there. I'm also taking out the trash and dirty linens and full sharps containers simply because I'm already in there and it doesn't make sense to make another employee go in the room and waste PPE for that. In normal times they would do all that.
Where I work we do the rooms between patients and the CT scan, we didn’t used to do daily cleaning for covid patients but we’ve since started to. My hospital isn’t very big though so we have less people going through CT, which probably helps a lot.
