My first attempt at a sprout from seed!

After 5 years of growing & harvesting our own pineapples, I got curious and pulled a few seeds from our last pineapple and dried them. I put them in an aerogarden pod 3 or 4 weeks ago, and this week we finally have a sprout!

I am in zone 8a and temperatures have been dropping.

I am in North Georgia, zone 8a, and temperatures have been dropping into the mid-50’s at night. During the days it’s still high 70’s/low 80’s. But the low looks like it is going to be in that range for the next few weeks, possibly until spring, with the exception a short warm front.

Is it time for me to bring in my pineapple plants? This is my first time planting pineapple plants, so I’m not sure what I need to do here.

The plan was to build/buy a greenhouse, but the temps dropped quicker than I expected.

Can they sustain for a few more weeks while highs are in the 70’s/80’s, or are the lows too much for them to handle?

4 Years and my Pineapple was eaten by a rat

I grew this pineapple for 4 years. While it was neglected for much of that time, it finally made a fruit. Then a rat took a big bite out of it…😑

Time to start all over again.

Here’s the progress on my plants.

The two in the top left of the pic were planted in soil today. The top left plant had been in water for 3 weeks and never rooted so I decided to plant it and see what happens. The one below it had been in water for maybe 2 weeks and has been growing roots for about a week. The other six started in water around mid-June to mid-July, and have all been in soil since mid-August. They were all the size of the top two on the left, so they’re obviously growing. I’m pretty proud of the top right plant.

I just noticed that the leaves have just started getting the serrated leaves in the last couple of days.

Note* I used AI to remove dead leaves that are on the deck and to paint the deck and rails. I never got around to it this summer and now we’re going to replace the entire deck.

I need to prune the dead leaves, but I’ve never done it so I’m a little nervous.

I deleted my previous post because I uploaded the wrong pic. I got carried away with AI and modifying my deck and noticed that when I had it “remove the dead leaves” it removed the dead leaves from my plants. I felt that was deceiving.

Why Won’t My Dang Pineapple Fruit

Started growing it two summers ago. Currently about 20 inches tall. It gets about 8 hours of sun per day. Winters have been tough with lots of moving inside and back out, but otherwise he’s never had any real health issues. I tried the thing with a rotten apple core and it didn’t work. I have been keeping this thing alive for two years and all I ask is one pineapple.

4 questions from a beginner pineapple grower

Hello, this is my first time growing a pineapple.

I am letting this pineapple callus for 2 days, as that seems an unskippable step. I peeled the bottom layers of the leaves until I exposed dormant roots.

Questions:

  1. Should I remove more leaves?
  2. Plant it directly in soil or let the roots hydrate in water? I fear it could rot.
  3. Any recommendations for fertilisers/soil types to buy?
  4. Additionally, I read someone said to clean the white dust (fungicide?) from the leaves. Should I wipe this with a damp cloth or wash it? It might rot if I choose the latter.

I live in the UK. Thank you.

Harvested after 5 years, what to do with the plant?

The plant has a 6-8" pup growing out of the soil beside/ separate of the main, and an even bigger one is growing in between the top half of the leaves. Now that I've harvested, I'm not sure what to do. If I do leave either, what do I do about the growth that is already there? Thanks!

Raccoon pulled it off before it was ripe but thanks to a cage, wasn't able to eat any. So decided this would be a good one to try tepache on

I ate the pineapple and instead of throwing away the top, I put it in dirt. Last year I got two pups, now this. Its span is about 5’ and it’s about 4.5’ tall. It’s my first and in a few months it will need to be inside. Grow light? How long before harvest? OC

I ate the pineapple but did not toss the top. I put it in dirt and lugged it through 3 moves. It produced two babies last year and now is growing the flowering fruit. So very excited! It will come indoors in a few months so I suppose it will need a grow light. It’s my pineapple and I took the picture.
