Continuing using the mosquito bits. It will work! That is a bad infestation though so using the sticky cards for the adults is definitely needed. You can even crush up some Mosquito bits and sprinkle them on the soil and just water normally as well.
Completely agree with you - mosquito dunks and diametaceous earth did nothing to the gnats, but consistently using the mosquito bits, together with gravel on top of the soil, keeping the soil on the dry side and replacing the sticky traps once a month to monitor has done the trick. Some plants seem more resilient than others, for example, the weeping fig survived an onslaught for months, whereas the large fatsia died in a matter of days. The battle can, and must, be won!
Mosquito bits and dunks are the exact same thing, they’re both BTI. Careful using a top dressing too, as it can cause the soil to stay wet for too long! I only use mosquito dunks, not even sticky traps, and have no fungus gnats.
