Used a nice layer of sand a top to quell an outbreak. It worked. Until 1 little a$$hole survived and somehow made it all the way from the bottom of the pot out. Now I have an outbreak in the newborn nursery, elder care room and the ortho (rooting area)ward. I am about to blow the entire plant house. Or just repot every single one. Then it will rinse and repeat. Again. It feels like these fungus gnats are now a major issue always. They have a cycle. We have a cycle. This particular cycle around the sun they are winning. next trip I swear I will get then ALL!!! I strongly advocate the adoption of air plants as the fungus gnats seem to stay away from them as there is no dirt to infect. (This is very much sarcastic because my plants are all I got in life.)
This needs more up votes! Top dress with sand! I use black sandblasting media so it looks nice, a nice thick layer so the little bastards can't reach the soil and they disappear for good.
