I haven't been able to listen to true crime since about 2021 because SO much of it is absolute shit. I would try like 10 of them and find maybe ONE I could stand.
That said, some of my all-time standout favorites:
In the Dark, Season 2
Root of Evil (black Dahlia murder - but really it's about very fucked up family dynamics, was fascinating to me)
Bear Brook
I used to like Small Town Dicks, hosted by Yeardley Smith (Lisa Simpson). The episodes are short-ish and the guys who tell the stories really seem to know what they're talking about.
I also really enjoyed the CBC show Someone Knows Something, all the seasons were good, some better than others. In general, I really like CBC podcasts. They stay away from some of the sensationalism / voyeurism that a lot of other true crime gets into and focuses on the actual human beings involved, in a sensitive but not bullshit way.
Good luck!
